Commercial Description:
As with all Gueuzes, Hanssens is a mixture of several vintages to produce a lambic which is refreshingly fruity.

This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.

750ml. Aromas of barnyard and citrus. Acidic and sour with a sour fruit finish. Color is a radiant golden honey that is very appealing. This is not my favorite style of beer but I can appreciate its complexity and satisfying finish.

Robe blonde dorée très claire surmontée d’une mousse blanche mince. Arômes de pommes vertes. Saveurs acides de fruits, d’agrumes, de bananes et de poussière.

Bottle, 37,5 cl. At home drinking at 10°, it’s perfect. Cloudy copper-orange with a small white head. Aroma is a wonderfully sour, yeast and sharp sour fruits. Nice expected gueuze flavor. Taste for me it’s one of the best geuezes: sour + sweetness togheter in good balance. Really complex and fabulous. Finish is pure pleasure.

(Rating #798)

Bottle. Golden with white head. Acid smell with some citrus. Quite sour taste and long finish. A good Geuze if you like this type of beer.

Deep golden color with small head. Acidic aroma and taste. This is how a real Gueze should taste like.

My familiarity with lambics comes from products like New Glarus’s Belgian Red and Lindeman’s Framboise, and this is a horse of a different color (and my first geuze), but here goes... Color is a darkish yellow...almost an amber color. For someone accustomed to other (dare I say more conventional) beer styles, it seems a bit dull versus a sparkling Pilsner Urquell, but not uninviting. The smell of this is powerful. I pick up a fruity citrusness, something like lemon-lime soda. The taste is sour up-front and finishes with a chardonnay grape fruitness. Mouthfeel is one of champagne carbonation. I feel sweetness on the tip of my tongue, and the sourness seems to hit the roof of my mouth. Very interesting. And recommended for those times when you’re looking for something different.
