As with all Gueuzes, Hanssens is a mixture of several vintages to produce a lambic which is refreshingly fruity.

This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.

No bottling date. Best before 07/08/2032. Pours a cloudy pale amber with small, white head. Lots of funky stable scents on the nose. Some tart berries, obvious brett, something rusty and metallic, and I'm afraid there's no other way of putting this, but it also smells a lot like a lavatory the day after you had some Tikka Masala. If you like a lot of funk, this should definetely tick all the boxes. The palate starts off with a big acidic kick in the face. Medium bodied. Bretty taste mid palate and a rather long finish with lingering acidity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Grumlig ljus geuze! Kompost & jordig, bärig eller fylla i doft? Syrlig, sur upp i stjärten. Gröna äpplen. Väldigt fin! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, 2013 vintage. Pours light copper, fairly clear, soapy white head. Nose is a riot: turning lemon peel, iron, hay, oak. Something like peach or apricot in the flavor; not bracingly sour, very balanced. Borderline creamy mouthfeel. Outstanding.

Sour gueuzey smell. Taste is the same with a very nice sourness to it. Great lively medium carbonation that goes down very smooth.

Golden in colour with slight cream head, some fizz in the glass. Sour nose very citrussy in flavour. Lots of flavour going on, even a bit of toffee somewhere. Sharp taste at the end. Really good.

375ml bottle, peachy golden with light white film fading quickly. Slightly sour aroma offering funk, barnyard notes and some sweet fruit. Taste is very sour but surprisingly light, some funky notes and maybe some sweet sunripe fruits here as well. Mouthfeel is light but plenty sour, aftertaste has strong lasting sourness - I love it when I can feel my tongue wrinkeling. All in all good, though maybe not very complex.

April 4, 2015. Bottle, 2012 vintage.
Hazy yellow with a medium sized frothy white head. Aroma is tart alpple skins, citrus, hay, oak, earth and light barnyard. Taste is dry acidic with lemon, apples, oak, dry finish with just a slight hint of vinegar. Light to medium bodied, nice small bubble carbonation.

Corked and caged bottle dated October 2014. Takes a bit more effort to remove the cork than some gueuzes do - carbonation is quite low. No head. Deep gold color. Very musty wood aroma along with plenty of fruity, funky, spicy notes. Something floral in there, too. Very light carbonation. More carbonation than a typical straight lambic, but not much. Taste is uniquely fruity - less lemon zest than some and more of a bright, sweet fruit sourness. Finish is perfectly dry and refreshing. Definitely a great gueuze.
