As with all Gueuzes, Hanssens is a mixture of several vintages to produce a lambic which is refreshingly fruity.

This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.

12.7oz bottle into a tulip. Pours a hazy orange with a tiny ring of bubbles along the top of the beer. Really lacking in carbonation. Aroma has moderate amounts of barnyard funk but not as much as some other examples of the style. Also a little bit of fruit. Tons of sourness at first leading to a moderate earthiness with the barnyard notes somewhat muted. I am also picking up some fruit, mainly cherries, throughout but becoming more noticeable towards the finish. I thought this was a decent gueuze but somewhat lacking in the funk/barnyard area. The sourness is quite puckering but I would have liked more funk. I would drink it again, though.

From corked/caged bottle. Pours light amber with the slightest bit of haze. Full frothy head, decent retention. Lots going on here, the nose is a wonderful combination of old musty basement, bread and apples. Flavors range from sour and tart to tangerine, peach, orange rind. Every swallow tastes a little differently. Could probably drink this all day. Wonderful brew.

Pours a clear golden with a touch of amber. Outstanding head volume and retention, world class lacing. Nice sour nose with a bit of vinegar. Tart apples, barnyard funk and a grassy mustiness. Light body with a lively carbonation from the middle on. The outstanding flavor profile is very intense (sour), not very complex and quite lacking in balance. This style calls for sour and this beer delivers. It begins with a sour apple flavor that is a bit tart. The middle brings a shift towards vinegar that becomes quite noticeable in the back of the throat. The finish is sharp and dry with a lingering vinegar sourness coupled with a bit of musty funk.

Amber color, with a white, medium head. Nice tart Aroma, with some barnyard touch to it. The initial sourness fades out in a mild aftertaste, that offers a combination of fruit and cereal details. Nice gueuze.

Bottle, 37,5cl. Pours hazy, immediate lactic acid and horseblanket in the nose. Very "dirty" geuze, a true one. Lemon acid, lactic, great tartness and complexity. Barnyard funk. Finish is long and balanced. Excellent tongue twister.

Une Gueuze typée tout en puissance, avec une belle expression du Lambic, et une longue bouche acidulée. Un gueuze destinée à vieillir.

37,5cl bottle at home. Clear copper colour, white foamy head that quickly disappears. Fruity white grapes, muscat-like together with the sweet malts, not too tard or dry; nicely balanced, rounded. Low carbonation, good body.
