SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Feb 14, 2009 Cask at Max’s 36h of Belgium. Rich crimson color with no head as expected. despite the lack of carbonation, the aroma bursted with tart cherries, minerals, light hay, grass, barnyard, and just a touch of vinnegar. The flavor was bone dry sour cherry intensity with a very light vinegar and funk addition. The body is where it fell appart; flat and oily. I can take a still straight lambic, but the cherry in this just begged for a spritzy carbonation. Great flavor, but bottled is probably the way to go on this. EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Feb 14, 2009 Cask at Max’s. Clear ruby red pour with no head. Vinegar funk with cherries on the nose. Very sour dry and tart. Cherry is very prominent and stands up well to the sourness. Very nice. No carbonation. Gualthiero (35), Antwerp, Belgium Feb 8, 2009 37,5 bottle. Mmm, great sourness. Disappointing aroma. Cherries come out in the finish. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 2, 2009 courtesy of Tony @ OTH.
Pours reddish, still
Aroma funk, cherry
Taste, lots of cherries, with light creamy mouthfeel and touch of sour. Light notes of sugar.
Sour remained very mild. Enjoyed this one a lot. HenrikSoegaard (4263), Randers, Denmark Feb 1, 2009 Bottle at Den Tatoverede Enke. Frothy white fair mostly deminishing head. Red colour. Great sour spicey aroma. Moderate bitter sour flavor. Anis notes. Long well-balanced moderate bitter finish. Oily palate. One of the best sour ales. saxo (3511), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Feb 1, 2009 Bottle. Medium head with medium duration. Color is red-amber. Aroma and taste are lactose acid, cherry with a nice balanced sourness. ruggedman (613), Portland, Maine, USA Jan 31, 2009 375ml Bottle at Novare Res.
Pours a brown reddish color with just a light head that lingers as a ring. Aroma is musty like dirty socks and soured fruit. Flavor initially is very tart, and that continues into a dry sweet-tart finish. Flavors are almost cheese or yogurt like. The first smell/sip was a shock, but as i progressed through this beer i started to enjoy it a little more. Lambics are new to me, but as i develop my taste for them i think they’ll end up being one of my favorites. This beer blew my mind, and I kind of liked that! elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Jan 30, 2009 Bottle. Pours the color of a ruby grapefruit with a wispy but bubbly head. Aroma is sour, with tart cherries, and green grapes. Flavor features strawberry and crisp green apple in the front-palate, with a prickly mouthfeel. Flavor ends with firm tartness, strongly reminiscent of red grapefruit and lemon juice. This style is not for the faint hearted, but I loved it.
