Very acidic and puckering - it really stings the nose. Clean cherry aromas, earth and grass. Lots of funk in the smell - barnyard and mud.
The taste is very sour, but still manageable. In fact, I really like the stuff. There is also a surprisingly noticeable sweetness. Lots of clean cherry flavors and notes of grass, earth and cherry pits. The finish is tart and dry with residual notes of cherries and cherry pits.
Medium body, refreshing carbonation.
A good one. Lots of acidity, not for the faint of heart.

NOTE: A quick note about a bottle that had been cellared only for about 6 months (usually they are cellared at least 12 months at the brewery before being released):
Both aromas and flavors are more gentle and slightly edgier than older bottles. The cherries are more pronounced and almost have a candy-like character. It’s less acidic and less funky. It has more sweetness to it, due to the bigger cherry flavors. I preferred the older bottle since it was more complex, more sour and all in all more interesting.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 10, 2009 375ml bottle. Pours red with small head that disappears fast. Nose is tart, quite vinous and sour cherries. A bit too vinous for my taste (I can’t stand Rodenbach). Taste is vinous and sour. It gets much less vinous at the end. Start would be 3.4, end would be 3.7. Intensely sour, mouth puckering. I’m a bit disappointed about this one. Not for me.
