3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I was expecting less than I got here, not being a fan of sourpus, dry geueze and lambic. But this kriek is sweeter and more mellow than Cantillon, which for me is good. The brew pours a nice amber with a definite reddish hue. Very prett, with delicate carbonation and a good, fizzy head, that eventually diminishes. I smell woody, cheesy, cherries with maybe a dirty sock and a used band-aid thrown in. Lotsa cherry flavor, surprising maltiness and hints of mint and herbs. Though sweet, there is a distinctly, sour lambic squeeze of acidity about midway through and into the finish. This is a nice lambic for folks like me who get a stomachache thinking about Cantillon, and love Flanders sour red ales.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
33cl bottle at home (13 II 2016), shared with the Meetjeslandse Bierproevers. This is one of my favoute old krieks, way less lambic styled as for example the Boon brews. It has an unbelievable good scent. The taste is like a young Cote du Rhone wine, with lots of sweet sour notes. The body is fairly heavy with a massive wood character. Sour wine and sour grapes are omnipresent, in combination with sour red berries (red currants). What a nose, what a body, what a character!

Hanssens Artisinal’s Oude Kriek 6%
Pouring an orange rose with a sour cherry, lightly oaky and earthy funkiness in the aroma. Smells like it’ll be interesting.
Oaky, black pepper funk and ascerbic cherries with a light acidity on a bright drinkable body.
I like it, it’s edgy enough without getting too extreme plus it is reasonably priced.
