Bottled. An unclear red beer with a rim of off-white head. The aroma has notes of almonds, brett, and cherries. The flavor is acidic with notes of cherries, almonds, wood, and brettanomyces, leading to a tart and woody finish.

Papsoe (25085) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 26, 2012
Bottle 37,5 cl. Courtesy of Theis. Pours a cloudy, opaque deep red with a tiny, off-white head. Heavy, heavy barnyard - the famous Belgian fart....you don’t find this in Sours from any other country. Medium body, low carbonation, heavily sour yet with amazingly fresh cherries. But goddamm that sourness and barnyard is heavy. Delicious. 260412

Bottle from Healthy Spirits in San Francisco. Big thanks to daysinthewake for the assist. Served in a Hanssens "Gueuze-Kriek" tumbler. Pours a bright, bright nearly blood red with a very short fizzy pink head that goes away almost immediately, hinting that this isn’t going to have much carbonation. The nose has some heavy cherry with cherry acidity and light earth. Touch of cherry pit. The flavor comes through stronger and brings a nice acidity that isn’t way, way, way over the top like many of the other Hanssens beers that I’ve had. Behind the cherry and acidity is a bit of earth and very mild funk. Body is light-medium with very low carbonation. Acidity is moderate and comparable to other authentic krieks, which is a warm welcome from Hanssens. Overall, a pleasantly surprising beer that I plan to seek out again.

phaleslu (6607) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 16, 2012
375 ml bottle from Wine and Cheese Place. Pours a hazed ruby red color with virtually no head or visible carbonation. Aroma of sweet and sour black cherries, dusty wood, lemon, acetic acid, and yogurt. Flavor bursts with sweet and sour cherries, lemon, oak, leather, dusty wood, and funk. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a sour, subtly acidic mouthfeel. Really nice and fruity without overpowering sourness or dryness. I enjoyed this a lot.

Sour cherry and rotting wood nose. Cloudy maroon, headless, still. Sour cherry with an underlying current of leather. Cranberry comes and goes unexpectedly. A good example of what a fruit lambic should be: lambic with fruit and not the other way around.
