rarbring (1800) - Linköping, SWEDEN - JUL 30, 2012
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2012 A clear deep chestnut amber brew, an off-white head, good lacing and some curtains.

Smelling of toffee, muffin batter, butter scotch, nuts and almonds. Some vanilla.

Starting with brown bread, brown sugar, syrup, dates, raisins, sherry, some bitter orange peel. Eggnog.

Medium carbonation, small bubbles, smooth, oily, sticky. A warm feeling (of alcohol), a big body.

A very sweet and warm barley wine. A real candy shot. Wonder how it will mature?

Bottle 330 ml. This was the 2010 vintage, 10% ABV.

Dark copper colour, nice lasting beige head. Aroma is typically barley wine. Taste is dark fruit, some spices, wood notes, hint of vanilla, sweet with some bitterness, some alcohol. Good full body and relatively high carbonated for a barley wine, not too high though.

2010 bottle, 10%. Dark reddish brown with a beige head that dissolves into a thin mist. Aroma: fudge, dried fruits, vanilla, light earthiness. Taste: toffee, some chocolate, licorice, raisins and more dried fruits, earthy, light floral and a hint of port. Full-bodied with low carbonation. A nice British style barley wine.

Bottle@Home. The aroma is pretty great. Flavour is OK but not exceptional. Full and burning. Just a bit metallic.

Hazy golden orange with a thin but enduring beige head. Syrupy full body with high carbonation.

Aroma: a ton of pale malt, a touch of chocolate malt, german noble hops, hints of toffee and piney american hops.

Taste: lots of pale malt, aromatic malts, fruity ale esters, toffee, caramel, citrusy hops, butter, and alcohol.

Malt aroma with hints of orange and chocolate. The flavor is sweet malt with chocolate undertones, some caramel and alcohol. An okay beer, but it does not really give me the "kick", can not say exactly why. Should probably try this again!
