3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
New Beer Distributors, NY 330ml ($3): 2009 bottle. Pours a brownish murk with a small head. Aroma is boozy, sugary, malty, and cakish. Taste is slightly boozy. Rather sweet. Mouthfeel is much lighter than expected. This ain’t that good of a barley wine. The extra years didn’t seem to mellow out the booze taste, but whatever, it was actually pretty easy to drink and that ain’t ever a bad thing.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2007 (Draught) Pours hazy amber/red. Very special aroma of strawberry yoghurt and dough. Raisins and plums with some vanilla. Caramell, dried fruits, apricot and alcohol in the flavour. Sweet medium body. (Draught, second try) Pours deep reddish brown. Incredible and fat aroma of sugary and buttery toffee. Also some caramel and vanilla ice cream. Flavour is the same, fat and sweet like liquid toffee. Some spicy hops and some apricot are also present. Full mouthfeel and body.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown color with a moderate off-white head. Nose is very malty with the characteristic dry wine elements of the style. Taste is just a tad sweet with the malty alcoholic backbone so often seen. Interesting, but not my favorite sort of brew.

Heavy syrup flavor with a strong hoppy that has a real bite. The mouth feel is full and doesn’t end throughout the beer. It has it’s flaws but it’s very drinkable
