3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours with a one finger khaki head that fades quickly to a thin layer, leaving some lace. Black color, no highlights. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Chocolate nose and flavor is roasted chocolate, dry chocolate finish. Thin, not malty enough and low ABV (7%) for a RIS. $5.49 for a 330ml bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, Vt.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 18/20
Licorice, tar, tobacco, and fudge nose, pretty strong. black, thick, beige head. Light body considering the robust aroma. Licorice and fudge flavor. tobacco throughout. Finishes with tar. Will not have broad appeal, but I really dug it, just a little thin.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
11.2 ounce bottle purchased at The Davis Beer Shoppe. The aroma on this is quite strange. It is a bit salty with some mild smokiness and some metallic roastiness. This is pretty difficult to enjoy. Opaque black body with a moderate tan head and not too much in the way of lacing. Starts salty, cloying, and mildly roasted. Lots of mineral body here. Becomes a little floral, before a roasty and somewhat coffee flavoring comes through towards the end. Kind of swampy and thin. Not such a great example of the style.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at Churchkey. Oily black pour, small tan head. Nose and flavor are marked with some nice roasted malt, coffee, touches of milk and bitter chocolate, and some plum and fig dark fruit tones. Soft, pretty light on the body for an impy, which fits the 7.5%. Not bad.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Hamiltons. Not a big Impy, but decent. Pours a pure black color with a small white head. The aroma is a milky roast, light coffee. A mellow stout with roasted malts, sweet milky coffee, vanilla. Pretty nice.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at the Birch. Thick as oil and super viscous. Drinks with many of the expected character of an imperial stout, but the fundamental flavor is hard to pin down ... one of my buddies claimed he detected some whiskey. I tend to label it more as a prune or dark fruit. What’s different in this is that there’s absolutely no alcohol kick or warmth ... means this finishes with less than the oomph that you might want.
