On draft at Hanze Stadsbrouwerij, Zutphen. Dark brown coloured. Spices, malts and ’zoethout’ dominate in aroma. Quite sweet, thick mouthfeel. Pretty heavy. Good brew, although i doubt whether i would like to have a few of these in a row.

Draught, 8%. Clear dark brown colour. Very small head. Good nutty flavour, hazelnut. Also a little spicy and roasted. Good.

From tap at the brewpub as Broedertje Dubbel, 8%. Pours clear and golden hazzlenut brown with a small diminished off-white head. Aroma is sooth roasted caramel malty with a very minor butterish note. Sweet caramel malty as main flavour impression. Light spiced too. Mild sweet finish with a light acidic roasted note lasting into the far finish.

Tap, small tasting glass. Full bodied, rather vinous flavor. Malty sweet and caramelly, but also very fruity. Cherry but also porto-like grapes. Warming alcohol. Somewhat sharp on the tongue. Hint of licorice. Also licorice and cake dough in the aroma. Pretty well balanced.

Dark brown color, medium creamy head. Aroma of strong malts, licorice, some laurel, milk chocolate, quite good. However, taste is not as good, but is more milky and spicy and a bit sour even. In the end it becomes more like coffee with milk, but creamy. Nice try, and if they improve the taste this can be a very good one.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2007 Tap@HanzeBrewpub. Aroma of laurel, other spices and a hint of cooked veggies. Hazy, dark brown color, beige creamy head, good lace. Sweet, dark malts, light spices, laurel, licorice, hints of chocolate. Very nice mouthfeel.
