4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Papsoe (21781) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAY 24, 2005
(Bottle 25 cl) Golden, very hazy with lots of floating yeast in the bottle. Very sophisticated - almost perfumy - spices. Looks innocent but has loads of alcohol. A nice surprise. 101094
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JFURYCAT (987) - East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 14, 2005
My bottle had a Sept. 2003 expiration date on it but I’ve had Hapkin before and this one aged pretty well. It has a very flowery aroma and I definately smell the Saaz hops. Its pretty spicy but it has a nice juicy finish which reminds me of white wine. While it has a nice fruity taste and mouthfeel, the only downside I detect is its astringent nature. Perhaps that comes from the alcohol content which I barely notice or the spices? Overall, its a quality beer but I’d take a Chimay or Duvel over it any day.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 MiP (11254) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - APR 20, 2005
Bottle. Light golden colour, slightly unclear. Big white head that seems to collapse from below creating a spider web of bubbles. Quite metallic aroma. Good mouthfeel and quite warming alcohol feel, but the flavour is unfortunately not as interesting. Grain and alcohol, unpleasant astringent aftertaste.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 sayravai (4518) - Helsinki, FINLAND - APR 17, 2005
(Bottled) Hazy golden color with a huge, fluffy and lacy head. Sweetish, lemony and hoppy, refreshing and yeasty aroma. Honey-lemony-fruity flavor with a bitter, acidic, saaz-hoppy finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Medium-bodied, slicky palate with foamy carbonation. An enjoyable, well-made Duvel clone. More acidic and sweet, though, and with not quite as spectacular head,
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Emil (6070) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - APR 5, 2005
Golden colour with a big white head. Light sweet herbal aroma and a sweet spicy taste. Medium body and a sweet finish.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Mklein818 (172) - Etterbeek, Virginia, BELGIUM - APR 1, 2005
This beer is VERY similar to Duvel--perhaps with a slightly spicier or hoppier flavor. Not bad.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 aspidites (1273) - manteca, California, USA - MAR 18, 2005
Dry, floral and grassy . Slightly hopresin and nuts palate mildly honeyed. Very good head retention with good release of gases. Mild herb and spice hints of basil and oregano on the palate. Clean and spritzy finish with just a touch of Saaz grass.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 omhper (15594) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 12, 2005
Bottled. Hazy golden, small head. Grassy nose. Fruity and sweet. Flowery hops dries the beer out towards the resiny finish. A straightforward ale with some almond character.
