beerguy101 (3424), Newark, California, USA Aug 18, 2004 Dark brown color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty and sweet, touches of dark fruits. A medium bodied Belgian double. Malts are fruity and sweet, toffee and chocolate. Hops are slightly spicy. Very smooth. Not a lot of that bright yeast character. Nice balance. Very dry finish for such a sweet beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. jazz88 (2192), San Francisco, California, USA Aug 16, 2004 Tap @ Small Brewers Festival. A swamp murky brown color with a light foamy tan head. Strong malts, toffee, caramel, and hints of dark fruit. A solid effort. SDbruboy (1809), San Diego, California, USA Jun 8, 2004 This was a slightly flat example of the brew, brought to me by friends from up north in a growler. Poured dark brown, almost opaque with hints of garnet when held to the light. No head to speak of but I’m assured that a fresher version of the brew produces a nice creamy off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, molasses and dark dried fruits. Flavor is also fruity, somewhat spicy with a bitter finish. Medium body and no carbonation. I look forward to re-rating this from a fresh pour!
