Deep brownish red, thick head that dissipated rather slowly, nose of clove and orange. Very hoppy, like I like my IPAs, and strong. Refreshing.

pours a rust brown with a white head. hoppy earthy bread aroma. smooth slight caramel taste. malt and hops are balance well at first taste, finishes with more of a malty, buttery taste. i cant put my finger on it, but there is something about this i like.

12 oz bottle: large, lumpy white icing atop a cloudy orange body, littered with dark flecks of yeast. Chalk-dusty, pine needle aroma with a good amount of pineapple. Sour, cherry feet flavours with a good dose of hops. Banana peel after taste along with a bit of sweet caramel. Mixed-up sour & strange flavours overall, not really one of my favourites.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2004 I’m not sure if the sixpack I bought of this might have been a little old or what, but this brew just didn’t click with me. The aroma was kind of sour. The beer poured a medium amber with a quickly diminishing head. First taste confirmed the aroma--sour. I certainly could detect the hops but they were overpowered by the sourness. It tasted for all the world like somebody had tossed a bunch of hops into a glass of unsweetened lemonade to me. I’ll try it again sometime and see if maybe I just got a bad batch.
At least it had a nice mouthfeel.

Beware of gushing bottles! Golden colored with many tiny suspended particles. Grand cream-colored head. Nice ring of lacing. Oranges, apricots and caramel in the aroma, which is not very strong. Decent hoppiness to the flavor initially, turning citric (oranges) and slightly malty. Rather big malt finish (white cake, cookies) for an IPA. Full mouthfeel, nice carbonation balance. Hey, I liked this. Underrated? I’d say so.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Alcoholist (570) - Peoria, Illinois, USA - MAY 1, 2004
Amber color with a thin frothy head and a nice sheet of lace. Aroma is citrus and malt. Flavour is oranges and caramel with some salt and nuttyness in the aftertaste (well described as "circus peanuts" by JPDIPSO). Not great but interesting.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jtw (1039) - farmington, Michigan, USA - APR 16, 2004
aroma is piney, yeasty, a little citrusy. orange/gold color, and a distinct smoke flavor. not much malt, but it's definitely bold and hoppy. finishes tangy and winey, not great but not bad.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 igneous1 (1467) - Davenport, Iowa, USA - APR 2, 2004
color is medium golden, thin and quickly dissipating white head. aroma is mildly sour and grainy mixed with a little citrus. flavor is a mixture of citrus, with a large grainy quality..definitely a different "type" IPA..it's OK
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 jburbey (14) - Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 19, 2004
I was very unimpressed with this beer overall. I was expecting a lot of hoppiness since it is an IPA, but it had a very mild hop flavor. The appearance is a light amber orange, with a little bit of cloudiness. There wasn't any head to speak about. I guess I just think it was kind of bland for an IPA. It wasn't a bad beer, just not what I expected.

Bottled. Average IPA. Had a slight hop bite to it.
