Pours black. Nose of caramel, chocolate and coffee. A bit funky on the palate, quire fruity for a porter but also dry with a hint of smoke. (Rating backlog tasted on or around 02/06/2013)

330ml bottle from Sainsbury’s, a black ale with a beige head; aroma pleasant of caramel, malts, and coffee; taste was on the sweet side with light carbonation and pleasant molasses, coffee and a vanilla note. Nice one!

330ml Bottle: BBD May 14, poured at home into a Gordons thistle shaped glass on 17th Nov 13. I love dark beers in this glass: it shows off the colours and head so well and it didn’t initially disappoint this time either. Very dark brown in body with a tanned head that sadly fell away a bit too swiftly for my liking. The aroma was ground coffee and roasted nuts with a malty molasses semi-sweet hint. Taste wise it was also leaning towards coffee, nuts and molasses: dark chocolate notes with raisins and vanilla also in the mix. Smooth yet with a mildly bitter finish, this is a lovely sipping beer and shouldn’t be rushed. I had some strong Cheddar, Celery Salt and plain Saltine biscuits with mine and they complimented each other beautifully.

330ml bottle from Sainsbury’s. Large creamy off white head, some lacing, body is very dark hazy brown. Nose has a lot of coffee, a little cream and sweetness. Flavour is coffee and smooth sweet caramel. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy with medium carbonation. A really enjoyable beer.

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2013 Bottle at home, bought at Sainsbury’s. Wow. Slightly translucent dark brown with a decent tan head. The aroma and taste are sweet: vanilla and almonds with strong alcohol and a bit of a metallic tinge to keep things interesting. A great find, and from a supermarket no less!

330 ml bottle kindly shared by Ivar. Clear deep ruby with a light brown small head. Buttery coffee and chocolate and a hint of leather on the nose. Coffee, smooth medium to full body. Roasted coffe lingers in the end.
