Opaque black beer with a tidy dark tan head. Crisp fresh palate, lots of minerals. Tangy dark malt with dark fruits and sourish whisky. Trace of candy fruits. Crispy finish with a tangy aftertaste and a touch of molasses.

Black of color with a brown head. An aroma of liqurce, coffee, roasted malt, sweets and weak bitterness. A flavor of roasted malt, liqurice, sour, coal, wood and burnt.

Bottle, 7.5%. Almost black with tiny head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and whisky. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, whisky, little acid, little vinous, little sweet, soy, wood and medium bitter.

A black hole with a tan fading head. Noses of leather, bitter chocolate, licorice with hints of ginger, earth and plums. Light salty and rather sour. Thin texture medium body with an abrupt finish. Weird contrast between aroma and flavour.

330ml bottle at home, bought from the brewery?s online shop. 352 of 660. Pours near black with an initial 1cm brown head, which just goes so fast it damn near broke the sound barrier. Aromas of soy sauce and chocolate, which is not my favourite combination. Taste has more salt/toffee combinations going on, little fruity blackcurrant maybe, sour at the end. Some whisky coming through, but a bit of an odd one this.

Bottle from Euston Tap. Black with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate, wood and a little whisky. Flavor is quite sweet, rather bitter and slightly acidic. Dry, roasted moderate bitter and slightly acidic finish. Lacks a little power but nicely balanced. 300713

Bottle from Trembling Madness in York. Pours black with a slight dark tan head. Aroma is sour, vinous chocolate. Med body. Flavor is sour, vinous, slightly milky chocolate. It’s certainly very different. I don’t know why it comes more vine than malt to me. Well, with time maybe it’s going a little whisky. It does have some heat. Finishes tastily sour, and hardly like an IS. It is what it is, and I wish I could try its relatives.

(33 cl bottle from Utobeers @ Borough Market; Bottle #576 of 660) Pours black with a quickly dissipating, tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, oak, vanilla and whisky. Oily texture, medium to full body, soft carbonation and a tangy finish. Taste is a bit unusual with the tart impressions that seem to go beyond what the roasted malt could deliver. It’s more likely to be either the barrel aging or something spontneous or both. However, the overall taste impression is relatively harmonic and this coupled with the fact that the beer is still being sold for 6 gbp per bottle at Utobeer makes it a natural assumption that the brever desired the tangy qualities in this beer. I think it makes it a bit strange and style-bending but isn’t that what this brewery is known for? I wouldn’t pay that price a seond time, though.

Danke an Scopey. Unscheinbar. 9/9/9/9/11/9
