We could tell you it’s a black IPA, and if we did we would be letting you into a great secret. But as you don’t believe in black IPA, you can just pass over this beer and move back to your dark mild as after all, black beer shouldn’t taste this good.

Bottle from Tomlinsons, Inverness [160213]
Black, thin ruby edges on glass, thin tan head, some lacing
Aroma - soft citrus, hint of chocolate, light aroma
Taste soft roasted malts, touch of cola, some sweet dark malts, touch of chocolate, citrus hops, dab of piney hop, nice touch of floral hop, well balanced...good flavour but rather light though...i like BIPAs to be fairly robust
Palate - Medium carb, bit over carbonated thin to medium body. Soft mouthfeel, light bitterweet palate. Finish as main flavour with a soft linger with some roasted dark malts coming through
Overall - A black IPA with a mellow stouty flavour with some soft citrus and a dab of floral hop in there. ...there are many variations of BIPAs out there - this is the style I like.....Must try this in cask one day

Pours black with a thin head. Aroma is raisins, earthy and a hint of cherry. A sweet cherry taste that gives way to an earthy middle and a slight bitter finish.

Bottle from Morrisons. Clean, dark copper in colour, thickish head, perhaps a bit too big bubbled, but it lasts well. Lots of roasted malt on the nose, also present on the palate where some nice citrus hops appear as well. Quite a big mouthful flavour wise, a good lingering finish....nice!

Thanks, bobinlondon for the bottle!! Pours a very dark brown with deep orange highlights and a tan head. The smell is roasted malt, molasses, citrus. The taste is dark roasted malt, dry and charred in the middle with hops coming in at the end bringing some pine and citrus. Light+ in body with average carbonation.

BlazerT (280) - POLAND - AUG 13, 2015
Bottle. Sensoric. Deep brown with medium, very ligh brown, semi-densed head. Good lacing, medicore head retention. Earthy, light roasted coffee aroma, also some rasins and ashy sensations. Taste is medium bitter and little salty. Light to medium body, rather watery texture, medium carbonation, finish is long medium bitter and very dry. In overall below average black IPA - definetely taste and palate should be improved.

jamestulloch (2200) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUL 28, 2015
Bottle from Morrisons. Dark brown body with ruby highlights and a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of coffee, shower gel, chocolate dust and raisin. Flavour of wood, lightly roasted malt, ash and a peppery finish. Thin body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Soft fizz. A bit wishy washy - neither rich nor powerfully hopped.

Fein zu Beginn mit einer vernünftigen Portion an Hopfen, etwas Kaffee und Röstmalzen. Darüberhinaus erstaunlich viel Perlung, eine feine Süffig- und Trinkbarkeit. Getreidige Stellen, absolut in Ordnung.

Bottle ordered in UK. The beer has got a deep black colour with a small head and medium body. Aroma of hops, roast and coffee. Taste of fresh hops, mild chocolate, woods, forrest, citrus fruits. Very quaffable and smooth to drink. Good beer.
