Dark, fruity, bitter, spicy.Galena and Willamette hops and a grist mix as complicated as an astrophysicist’s equation.

Keg @ the Rake - nearly black body. Some serious smoke and rubber in the nose. Very decent roastiness, somewhat lighter and milder finish. Quite lightbodied. Very nice beer, yet it would be deserving of a more robust backbone, commensurate to its flavours.

Bottle. It pours a reddish dark brown body under a small, dense, light beige head. Roasted aroma with some bonfire and a good dash of dried fruits. Some acidic notes. Dark malts, roasted notes and a malty-sourish touch in the flavor. Full to medium body, dry and with a pleasant carbonation level. Malty-sour roasted aroma with dried fruits and some coffee hints. Pretty decent, but not my kind of stout. 140808

Tap. Clear dark brown color. Small size, dark yellow head, stays. Fruity, prunes, touch of iron in aroma. Faint fruits, roasted malts in taste. Thin body, but high carbonation. Thin.

aroma flebile bello aspetto il sapore è originale ai malti tostati si aggiunge una punta acida che la rende unita al corpo molto beverina

Bottle at home from High Peak Beers, Stockport. Pours an almost black brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, light fruit, some smoke and licorice. Flavour is fairly soft and roasty, not bad at all.

Bottle from Bier Huis, Ossett. Very dark, chestnut brown. Big, bubbly, tan head. Drank this quite cold as I thought it was a BIPA. Not that it mattered, because like other Hardknott beers I’ve had, this is a bit bonkers. Blackcurrant liquorice sweets. Shoe polish (?). Raisins. Taste is dry. Light bitterness. Light, black peppery spiciness. Bit overly carbonated. Dry, light, bitter finish. Very decent. Certainly different.

Bottle 330ml (AbM)
Deep ruby color, midsized beige head. Woody, earthy, spicey, berries and dark malts in the nose. Light to medium-bodied. Roasted flavor with herbal notes, ginger and some other spiceys. Light earthy note too. Not my cup of tea (beer).

330 ml bottle. BB 03/2015. From alesbymail.co.uk.
Black colour with a tiny tan head. Mild roasted malt, chocolate, chocolate cookies, mild hops, Coke and some mild spices in the aroma. The flavour is mild bitterness, roasted malt, ashy dryness and some mild hops. Thin and watery. Very low carbonation.
