COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned. Has been seen in cask.
This IPA is not particularly Pale. In fact it’s a deep ruby red. Based on a modern American style beer from Oregon using Cascade and Centennial hops in appropriate proportions, for bittering, aroma and dry hopping balanced with a strong Crystal malt backbone.

Dark red beer. Great strong taste straight away, liquorice, hops and a kick to it too. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml Bottle: BBD 08 2015, poured into a Duvel glass during 10 2013. Looked fine, nice red hue with a full white crown on top. Floral and fruity nose, but difficult to tell if it was hop or malty notes I was picking up, most likely a mix of the two. It became more malty as it warmed in the glass, with some sweeter, caramel type esters arriving. The taste was maltier from the start with dark berries and an earthy, woody hint within the mix: different and no unpleasant. The alcohol just about hidden by the flavours, would have liked a bit more body depth, but is based on an IPA style, so you shouldn’t expect a heavy, creamy bodied beer.

Scopey (5521) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 6, 2013
Bottle from Sainsbury’s Purley Way. It pours clear deep amber with a thick beige head. The nose is wood, earth, brown bread, toast, caramel and spice. The taste is wood, earth, caramel, decent bitterness, some astringency, touch of acidity, resin, light alcohol and spice with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Perhaps a bit more malt-forward than I like my IPAs, but pretty decent nonetheless.

Appearance: Clear ruby with cm thick ivory head which was quick to disappear. Aroma: Lemon, orange marmalade, pepper, floral, toast, smoky, slightly vinous and a touch of chocolate. Taste: Low sweetness, medium bitterness, and low/medium sourness. Palate: Thick rough texture and medium body, average carbonation and lingering bitter astringent marmalade, toast, pepper, lemony and smoky finish. Comments: Very tasty, no lacing. 6.2% ABV.

Bottle (6.2%) from Sainsburys, Grimsby. Faintly hazy red-brown, thin shortlived off white head and gentle condition. Muted but persistent fruity hoppiness with some faint bretty hopsack notes and a touch of berries, solidly hoppy in the mouth initialy, exploding with a restrained dry bitterness and leaving a fallout of berries and brett, finish is hoppy and dry with an earthiness and hints of hopsack lingering.

Bottle from Sainsbugles. Almost clear, reddy amber. Thin, white head. Aroma of black cherry, some pine, plenty of maltiness. Taste is more of the same. Oily aftertaste. Gluggable.

330ml bottle from Sainsbury’s - A solid red body, thick white head. Lots of red fruits picked out in the nose, strawberries, cherries all sorts. The taste is a little less impactful, a dumbed down hit of the nose. Nice robust body, very enjoyable indeed and probably my favourite in the Sainsbury’s Beer Hunt.

Everettm (65) - Bristol, Somerset, ENGLAND - SEP 30, 2013
Dark reddish brown, with good finger of head and above average carbonation. The aroma consists mainly of various malt (biscuit, some treacle, burnt caramel) but with splashes of pine and both dark fruit (cherry) and citrus. Good mouthfeel, a bit to much focus on malt character in the flavour, some woody notes and only the lightness of citrus character. Mild hoppy bitter finish.

Sainsburys Beer Hunt. Doesn’t taste like an IPA really - got that sugary/bitter red ale taste going on. The taste is quite bright and strong upfront but doesn’t really go anywhere, no subtlety. OK but not amazing.
