COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned. Has been seen in cask.
This IPA is not particularly Pale. In fact it’s a deep ruby red. Based on a modern American style beer from Oregon using Cascade and Centennial hops in appropriate proportions, for bittering, aroma and dry hopping balanced with a strong Crystal malt backbone.

Appearance: Clear ruby with cm thick ivory head which was quick to disappear. Aroma: Lemon, orange marmalade, pepper, floral, toast, smoky, slightly vinous and a touch of chocolate. Taste: Low sweetness, medium bitterness, and low/medium sourness. Palate: Thick rough texture and medium body, average carbonation and lingering bitter astringent marmalade, toast, pepper, lemony and smoky finish. Comments: Very tasty, no lacing. 6.2% ABV.

Bottle (6.2%) from Sainsburys, Grimsby. Faintly hazy red-brown, thin shortlived off white head and gentle condition. Muted but persistent fruity hoppiness with some faint bretty hopsack notes and a touch of berries, solidly hoppy in the mouth initialy, exploding with a restrained dry bitterness and leaving a fallout of berries and brett, finish is hoppy and dry with an earthiness and hints of hopsack lingering.

Bottle from Sainsbugles. Almost clear, reddy amber. Thin, white head. Aroma of black cherry, some pine, plenty of maltiness. Taste is more of the same. Oily aftertaste. Gluggable.

330ml bottle from Sainsbury’s - A solid red body, thick white head. Lots of red fruits picked out in the nose, strawberries, cherries all sorts. The taste is a little less impactful, a dumbed down hit of the nose. Nice robust body, very enjoyable indeed and probably my favourite in the Sainsbury’s Beer Hunt.

Everettm (81) - Bristol, Somerset, ENGLAND - SEP 30, 2013
Dark reddish brown, with good finger of head and above average carbonation. The aroma consists mainly of various malt (biscuit, some treacle, burnt caramel) but with splashes of pine and both dark fruit (cherry) and citrus. Good mouthfeel, a bit to much focus on malt character in the flavour, some woody notes and only the lightness of citrus character. Mild hoppy bitter finish.

Sainsburys Beer Hunt. Doesn’t taste like an IPA really - got that sugary/bitter red ale taste going on. The taste is quite bright and strong upfront but doesn’t really go anywhere, no subtlety. OK but not amazing.

Cold bottle from Sainsburys, into tulip. Apparently it’s hoppier than a bucketful of frogs... Very dark mahogany brown/red with a huge off-white head, gently sparkling. Smells of pungent pine as it’s pouring but the head obscures the smell eventually. Body is medium and quite foamy, nice level of carbonation. More pine in the taste, some background liquorice, slightly astringent, bitterness is surprisingly soft. I’m not really a fan of Centennial but they are quite well integrated here. Pretty solid stuff overall.

330ml bottle at home. So it goes on, this orange supermarket binge. Do they just stick a pin in a map and say, "Where’s the nearest brewery to this?" Best of a bad lot this though, but nowhere near as good as Rhetoric 1. Reddish brown pour, toffee nose with decent enough hop aroma - grass, orange, really faint pine. Tastes balanced, if not exciting. Good.

Bottle @ Aarhus tasting. Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, heavy caramel and moderate hoppy - fruity and old hops. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish. Too sweet for my liking. 260913
