COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned. Has been seen in cask.
This IPA is not particularly Pale. In fact it’s a deep ruby red. Based on a modern American style beer from Oregon using Cascade and Centennial hops in appropriate proportions, for bittering, aroma and dry hopping balanced with a strong Crystal malt backbone.

Deep ruby, lively carbonation. Rich vinegar aroma, very mouthwatering and fruity. Packed with flavour. Chock full lf malt, redcurrants, cherries, oak, mint, euchaluptus. Some Belgian sourness, too. Dry finish, hops and a hint of wood.

Bottle. Copper coloured with assign foam. Aromas are toffee malts with floral green pine notes. Red berries with some earthiness and spices. Dark syrup hints with toast and woodiness. Flavours are chewy toffee malts with caramel and bubblegum. Woody pine with berries and flowery aspects. Dry with perfumed prickly bitter pine on the finish. Not had a UK beer like this one for a while. Good.

Bottle. A brave attempt at producing a west coast style IPA which hasn’t quite hit the target. Reddish with a small head with subtle hoppiness. Still very pleasant if not outstanding.

Bottle from Beermerchants, consumed 10.12.10 Pours reddy colour but with a considerable haze, the head is filmy and off-white. The nose is interesting as it seems to combine a cheesiness with an upfront citrus hop. Brisk from the off in the mouth with pine, citrus (grapefruit noted) soft in mouth, some oiled sweets, touch of sherbert and a pithiness, it’s good but not as good as the description suggested. Bottle from Beer Ritz, Leeds. Couldn’t help but think they’re trying to bite Brew Dog’s style with all the guff on the label. Poured a dark orange colour with a thin off white head. Aroma a bit underwhelming, slightly sweet with some pissy hop lurking. Flavour had some half decent hoppage along with the crystal malt and some fruit and yeast notes. Reasonable lingering bitterness in the finish. Balance maybe a little off. Drinkable enough on the whole though, and along the right lines.

Cask gravity at the Dudley Winter Beer festival. Pours hazy red with a small head. Aroma was resin hops, some mango and grapefruit. Grapefruit to start with a piney hop, medium bitter finish.

Bottle at Meantime’s Old Brewery bar and restaurant. Crystal malt and American hops. Tastes rather softer and more pleasant than the ingredients would suggest. It’s smooth with toffee notes and there’s some pleasant soft edged citric notes from the hops. Anglo-American you could call it. It’s not exciting, but it is palatable - at least in small doses - I find that a little crystal goes a long way, and can accumulate a cloying sweetness that doesn’t encourage further drinking. On this brief examination, however, it’s perfectly acceptable.

Cask handpull at The Rake. Dark red no head. Some hop some decent red malts. Bit thick on the rubber flavour on the swallow. Needs work maybe.
