Itís a triple imperial stout with lots of stuff in it. Itís full of beans, three different types in fact (coffee, vanilla and cocoa). Itís 11% and black. You wouldnít neck it very fast, it will be seriously expensive for one thing. Also, you wouldnít drink much of it because of the intense flavours. It is unlikely to cause major drunken behaviour mainly because it is aimed at beer geeks rather than tramps.

330 ml bottle.
Pours a pitch black colour with a dark brown head. Looks awesome. Aroma of really strong roasted malts, licorice, vegetables and roasted coffee. Flavour of roasted malts, strong coffee, cooked vegetables, vanilla and grassy hops. Some floral notes. Full bodied, oily mouthfeel and a long warming roasty finish. Past itís prime.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. An Inky black beer that pours with no head. It has an oily mouthfeel, an extremely powerful coffee flavour, warming chocolate and vanilla followed by a bitter hoppy, coffee and sweet warming finish.

Bottle, like alcoholic toasted treacle and liquorice, sweet yet dry and just bitter enough.

2014-07-08. Dark brown black body headless. 3+ Aroma is modest sweet dark malt, some vegetal green coffee character. Flavour is fairly sweet, rich dark malt. Lightly fruity. Lingering lightly tangy dark malt. 7+ Smooth medium bodied palate, soft carbonation. 4+ Bottle, Tasting at cgarvieukís, Edinburgh

Bottle @ home shared by benzai. Black colour with a small to medium sized light brown head. Smells sweet, chocolate, bourbon, coffee. Tastes chocolate, roasty, lots of iron, some liquorice, hint of vanilla, wiebertjes. Medium to full, soft carbo.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized dark brown head. Aroma is malts, dark and roasted malts, coffee, espresso, loads and loads of coffee and espresso, vanilla. Taste malts, again loads of coffee and espresso, quite some vanilla, sweetness as well as bitterness, slightly iron. Wow, loads and loads of flavors mixed together. Not completely balanced, but certainly not a mess. I think this is a wonderful beer, but I just happen to not like vanilla.

Bottle at home from the beer stall in Stockport market, good bloke that guy there. Thick black colour with a very small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, something metallic. Flavour dark chocolate, some alcohol warmth, jammy fruity notes, some coffee bitterness. A decent beer but something just didnít give me wood. 837315

Pours petrol black. Head disappears, which makes it look terrible. Coffee, big sweetness, liquorice, some burnt notes, smoky wood. Flavour is smooth sweet milk. Big bitter hit on the finish, with massive alcohol burn. No bubbles. There is a lot going on the nose but the alcohol is not integrated enough. Oily slick mouthfeel. Not great.

Garrold (1461) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - FEB 16, 2014
Bottle from Bier Huis, Ossett. Clear, very dark, reddy brown. Halo of tan head. Sugary espresso. Taste is thick sweetness. Some coffee bitterness. Thick, sugary palate. Bitterness at the end, but too late to prevent tooth melt. A bit rough, to be honest.

330 ml bottle from Redmonds. Black, brown pour, thin tan head. Vanilla, chocolate, coffee aroma. A blast of flavour, sweet, stewed fruits, espresso bitter. Thick syrupy mouthfeel, minimal carbonation. Have it with some salted caramel.

Aroma suggests sweet intensity and thatís precisely what it delivers. Thin head which disappears quickly, coffee and a nice roastiness, nice carbonation keeping the beer from overwhelming. Just too much Vanilla in there for me making the sweet finish spoil the balance.
