COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbey-style Quadrupel Aged in Virginia Bourbon Barrels
Hardywood Bourbon Cru is brewed in the fashion of the abbey quadrupel, the grand cru of many of Belgium’s revered monastic breweries. Bourbon Cru displays a sunset orange hue with a substantial head and brilliant clarity after months of barrel ageing. The maturity and melding of flavors brought on by the freshly drained, half-decade old Virginia bourbon barrels from Fredericksburg’s A. Smith Bowman Distillery lends an extraordinary sense of harmony to Bourbon Cru. Almond toffee and oaky vanilla aromatics give way to dark cherries, raisins and mature whiskey. A bit of plum flavor is greeted by caramel overtones and an assertive yet incredibly rounded body and a lingering, bourbon-laced finish.

Bottle. UPDATED: Pours a ruby red/brown with thinner tan head. Smells big maltiness with known bourbon and vanilla. Taste comes off very fruity/cherry, sweet caramel malts, lighter than expected bourbon notes, some booze, raisins, oak. Medium body. Complex, and I liked it because the bourbon aging was not overly powerful. Would have been better if not for the big cherry notes which grew tiresome by the end of the brew.

Aromas of bourbon-soaked plums, cherries. Clear ruby color with a mostly lasting white head. A little sweet, boozey, fruity, rich. Full bodied, a little hot.

Location: 750 ml bottle, 2014 Release, 5/22/15

Aroma: It has a strongly bourbon aroma, with some wood and vanilla as well
Appearance: It pours a clear reddish color without much head and some mild, spotty lace
Flavor: The flavor is really strong on the bourbon as well, it dominates the taste
Palate: Fairly full bodied, big and boozy, with a soft carbonation, and plenty of heat
Overall Impression: Definitely not a beer for those who don’t like bourbon. I think it is a pretty solid example of the style, but I feel like a like balance could have been in order here.

Bottle in the hotel lobby, RBWG ’15, night 2 - 20/02/15 thanks to whomever shared this number. Rich amber with a moderately appointed beige covering. Nose is toffee, booze tunes, spice, dark malts. Taste comprises biscuit, toffee, sweet licks, hint of chocolate, dark fruits, light wood. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough quad, sweetness tempered with some bitter strokes, masks the ABV well.

750 ml bottle. Pours a dark amber with a reddish hue that has a small cream colored head. The scent is oak and booze. It tastes very bourbon boozy. There is some raisin, plum, and malts present. Acts more like a barleywine than quad. Would definitely benefit from aging for 6-12 months. Alright, would definitely cellar.

750, thanks Richard. Dark brown copper color. Smell and taste are butterscotch candy, touch of vanilla and bourbon. Has a slight Belgian yeast. Pretty tasty.
