COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gingerbread Stout Aged in Virginia Bourbon Barrels
Hardywood Gingerbread Stout, described by BeerAdvocate as “freagin’ Christmas in a bottle,” is an imperial milk stout brewed with vanilla beans, cinnamon, fresh Casselmonte Farm baby ginger and Bearer Farms wildflower honey. Gingerbread Stout is then matured in Virginia bourbon barrels, where it adapts an incredibly mellow character with oak, caramel and bourbon undertones, and emerges 12 weeks later as Bourbon GBS. A festive blend of spice character laces this rich, chocolatey stout, which warms the palate and the soul.

On tap at Rustico Ballston. Pours a still opaque black with ring of bubbles at glass. Maroon hue when backlit. Aroma is ginger, bourbon and cinnamon. Flavor is roasty sweet with spicy complexity. A clean finish, awesome.

Draft at EBF, overflowing bourbon sweetness, slightly burn molasses flavor, not my thing at all, really boozy.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2014 Bottle... darkguardian’s & biggsbowler’s West Palm Beach Birthday Bash!... Murky dark brown pour with a small, creamy, taupe head. Good retention. Not much of an aroma here. The barrel has stripped the beer of any gingerbread component and added virtually no bourbon character. Full-bodied and creamy with prickly carbonation. The flavor offers subdued sweetness, chocolate and deep-roast malts, but no gingerbread facet remains. Finishes carbonic, sweet and then bitter. Good stuff, but I enjoyed the untreated base beer far more. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!

This one poured a darker brown with a biege head. Aroma was of chocolate, cinnamon, ginger and coffee and bourbon. Falvor was similar, very smooth boutbon, but did not get much complex gingerbread underneath

Dark black with a 3 mm head. Smells great. Where the hell is Mr. Gingerbread? Love this beer. Regular is cool. BB is sooooo much better. Too bad they lost 50 barrels of this in 2013 due to a clamp!

2012 bottle. Dark burnt orange pour. Nose at first is some bourbon, gingerbread, vanilla, booze. Nose becomes more bourbon forward as it warms. Taste is bourbon, vanilla, ash, some ginger but less than I expected. Silky oily medium mouthfeel.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Pinsky, Thanks bud!, 1/12/13, 2013 Release

Aroma: The nose is bourbon over ginger bread cookies, roasted malt, molasses, and brown sugar
Appearance: A dark brown color, fairly thick pour, and a small ring of beige head with spotty lace
Flavor: The flavor is actually extremely well-balanced, the bourbon adds an excellent boozy component to the base beer that leans toward the sweet side, and the spice works nicely here too
Palate: The body is medium, leaning full, it smooth and almost silky, with a dry, bourbony finish
Overall Impression: This is excellent. This base beer was really meant for the barrel treatment. I love how the bourbon plays with the sweetness without overwhelming the underlying beer. Truly a world-class offering. Thanks again Pinsky!
