An assertive Imperial Stout aged 12 weeks in bourbon barrels and conditioned on custom roasted Sidamo coffee from Lamplighter Roasting Company, Bourbon Sidamo showcases the signature flavors of whiskey, roasted malt and Ethiopian coffee. This robust stout displays a midnight hue with a caramel head and offers a dark chocolate character laced with hints of blueberry from this unique coffee bean, rounded out by charred White Oak infused by an angelís share of Kentucky goodness.

750ml bottle into a snifter. A: Pours a very dark cola brown color that looks distressingly thin. The head starts off at about one fingers of a light khaki shade, but settles down to a thin collar after a short while. Not much lacing, as expected. S: No one note jumps out at me - rather, they tend to meld together quite well. I pick up some vanilla, touches of black coffee, chocolate, cream, molasses, and brown sugar. The bourbon presence is very subtle. T: The first sip seems to reveal the bourbon tones, only for the second sip to wash over that with mild coffee notes. After vanilla initially opens the palate, it develops strong nutty flavors in the middle before it finishes with some bitter coffee and maybe a speck of roasted barley. I think the coffee is stale here - though to be fair, itís not the freshest bottle so Iíll let it slide. It doesnít have an annoying vegetal component, at least. Well balanced and enjoyable. M: Itís texture is rather thin and even fragile, without much softness to make up for it. The finish is rather sweet and sticky; in spite of that, the drinkability is actually quite dangerous partly thanks to strong carbonation. The underwhelming body still kind of irks me, though. O: I have two quibbles here: itís not very ístout-yí, and itís way too thin. Otherwise, this is a decent BA coffee stout that focuses more on balance than big, bold flavor. At its price, though, I probably wonít buy another bottle, except for usage as trade bait.

Aroma: The aroma is strong bourbon over some more subtle roasted coffee and chocolate
Appearance: It pours an almost black color with a small head and some light, spotty lace
Flavor: The flavor is sweeter, with chocolate, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, and some fruity notes
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has a soft-to-average carbonation, and a clean finish
Overall Impression: I felt like the bourbon swetness and booziness overpowered everything else in the aroma, but the complexity comes through more in the flavor. Overall, this is solid and well-made. Definitely leans sweet.

Bomber->snifter. Deep brown with small lite tan head. Coffee, vanilla, and roasted malt, with some booze notes. Lingering bittersweet finish. Pretty good, but not a standout bourbon stout.

Bottle shared by Caleb. Dry, and lightly sour notes. Under-ripe green pepper. Low carbonation. I didnít care for this.

Bottle shared by CLevar - thanks! Black pour, thin. Some tan head. Nose is really nice bourbon malt and caramel. Tobacco and toffee, malty and bittersweet finish. Good but something is missing.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a very rich and oily two centimetre tall strong brown head. No light permeates the beer, even at an angle - fully opaque. Aroma of alcohol, vanilla, oak, cedar, coffee, earth, caramel, toffee, cognac and whiskey - strong and pungent. Full-bodied; Rich roasted malt flavours at first with a very slick and oily feel showing a ton of vanilla up front with a good oak, cedar and cognac flavour right afterwards and a lot of rich raisin and pit frut sweetness near the finish. Aftertaste shows a good mix of alcohol, oak barrel flavours and a good strong stout backbone - no real faults here. If you like the cognac and whiskey flavours, then youíll really enjoy this one. Overall, a good oak-based imperial stout with some solid flavours and a smooth yet pungent complexity - great to have! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Trader Joeís in Falls Church (Baileyís Crossroads), Virginia on 06-March-2014 for US$12,99 sampled at home after quitting my very first job after college after 10+ years on 25-July-2014.

Bottle at the Beechner Blind Beer Bash. Lots of cherry and fruitiness in the nose. Flavor is very fruity as well, with a hint of barrel character- just booze with a touch of vanilla. ok, but fruitiness seems to dominate. weird

From the July 2014 3R6P gathering. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large foamy tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was tangy and malty anise, chocolate and wood. The flavor was tart red wine, coconut, vanilla, toasty malts, anise and a boozy presence. Long finish. Moderately full bodied and fairly creamy. Booziness lingers. Interesting.

Dark, nearly black pour. Coffee and bourbon mostly in the aroma. Taste of black coffee, vanilla, wood. Bourbon far more prominent in the nose. Thick body.
