Brewed with baby ginger from Casselmonte Farm and wildflower honey from Bearer Farms, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout captures the terroir of central Virginia in a rich, creamy libation with a velvety mouthfeel and an intriguing evolution of flavors from milk chocolate and vanilla to honeycomb and cinnamon to a snap of ginger in the finish. Deep, dark chocolate in color with a mahogany tint and a frothy, caramel colored head, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout offers aromatics of holiday spice originating from the ginger, and balanced with a generous dose of whole Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans and Vietnamese cinnamon. Milk sugar (lactose) contributes to the full body of this stout and tames its roasty character, while oats lend a silky quality. Enjoy fresh, or cellar for a special occasion. We hope Hardywood Gingerbread Stout contributes to your merriment this season.

Received in a trade with a generous BA. Beer has piqued my interest for awhile, Iím really happy to be finally giving this a try. Pours a pitch black in color with some brown hues around the edge of the glass. Nose is gingerbread, cinnamon, nutmeg, and all spice. Normally I think the nose would be taken over with spices in this beer, but the gingerbread is holding strong. Itís prominent and pleasant. Taste is dry gingerbread, itís not overpowering, but itís gentle and pleasant. There is the aforementioned spice and chocolate and just a little coffee. Moderate mouthfeel, light to moderate carbonation, and a long finish. This is exactly what I was hoping for. When I heard the deScription, I didnít think it would live up to the flavor, but it surpassed my expectations. This would be an excellent holiday sipper at thanksgiving or Christmas.

July 18, 2015. Bottle, 2013 vintage at Quebec tasting, thanks for sharing!
Almost black with a reddish hue and a small tan head. Aroma is spicy and malty with ginger, juniper, cinnamon, toffee, light roasted notes with hints of chocolate. Taste is sweet, malty, spicy and soft bitter. Finish is sweet toffee, blackberries, vanilla, spicy ginger and cinnamon notes with a quite dry spicy and roasted, yet soft, bitterness. Light to medium bodied, soft to average carbonation.
Good, ginger bread it is, quite spice forward but slightly thin. The bourbon version was smoother and tastier.

Dark, dark brown pour with a quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma is sweet - gingerbread, malt, cocoa, and a little vanilla. Sweet malty flavor with dark cocoa, gingerbread. Transitions briefly to a roasted malt light bitterness finishing with a full cocoa & gingerbread aftertaste. Palate is thick, full bodied, and softly carbonated.

Pours opaque ink-black with a creamy, 1-finger caramel-colored head. Aroma of chocolate with a honey-sweet note. Full-bodied and a bit creamy. Astringent finish. Flavor of chocolate, with a strong bite of ginger and a touch of honey-sweetness. This was really good, but have a feeling that some aging would make it even better by taking some edge off of the astringency.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2016 Bottle round Dave?s. Pours deep dark brown. Subtle bready malty aromas. Lovely dark chocolates on gingerbread biscuit character - evoking nostalgic memories of hand made in a country kitchen by Grandmama. Some hop character coming through on the gulp. A little spice kick too.

Bottle. Black with tan head. Absolutely stinks of ginger, spices. Taste of ginger and spices, like a gingerbread man. Medium body with a clean finish. Not a big fan of ginger

750ml->snifter. Deep brown with moderate lite tan head. Cocoa, gingerbread, cinnamon, roasted malt, chocolate, some holiday spice. Very good, though the ginger spice is a bit much for me after the first few ounces.

750 mL bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA (2015 bottle listed as 9.2% ABV). Very dark brown pour with a short khaki head. Aroma is wonderful with gingerbread, cinnamon, and vanilla nearly disguising faint chocolate notes. The taste is even more impressive with a recognizable milk stout base that is up to the task of supporting gingerbread, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and clove flavors. The cinnamon and chocolate flavors really seem to linger on the palate. Alcohol is present but not unwelcome. I thought this would be good but I didnít expect to like it this much. Outstanding!
