COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with baby ginger from Casselmonte Farm and wildflower honey from Bearer Farms, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout captures the terroir of central Virginia in a rich, creamy libation with a velvety mouthfeel and an intriguing evolution of flavors from milk chocolate and vanilla to honeycomb and cinnamon to a snap of ginger in the finish. Deep, dark chocolate in color with a mahogany tint and a frothy, caramel colored head, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout offers aromatics of holiday spice originating from the ginger, and balanced with a generous dose of whole Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans and Vietnamese cinnamon. Milk sugar (lactose) contributes to the full body of this stout and tames its roasty character, while oats lend a silky quality. Enjoy fresh, or cellar for a special occasion. We hope Hardywood Gingerbread Stout contributes to your merriment this season.

Received in a trade with a generous BA. Beer has piqued my interest for awhile, Iím really happy to be finally giving this a try. Pours a pitch black in color with some brown hues around the edge of the glass. Nose is gingerbread, cinnamon, nutmeg, and all spice. Normally I think the nose would be taken over with spices in this beer, but the gingerbread is holding strong. Itís prominent and pleasant. Taste is dry gingerbread, itís not overpowering, but itís gentle and pleasant. There is the aforementioned spice and chocolate and just a little coffee. Moderate mouthfeel, light to moderate carbonation, and a long finish. This is exactly what I was hoping for. When I heard the description, I didnít think it would live up to the flavor, but it surpassed my expectations. This would be an excellent holiday sipper at thanksgiving or Christmas.

Draft at Moriartys. Pitch black pour. Only a slight off-white ring on top. Clean dark sweet caramel malts. Chocolate liquorice. The ginger is clearly present but does not particularly define the beer - certainly more ginger than gingerbread. Some molasses. Good stuff.

Pretty good. The ginger is pretty well tempered and doesnít destroy the stout elements. Pours black with good head and lacing. Not a hell of a lot of roast, that being said. Sweet finish. Tap at Churchkey.

750 ml in to a tulip. 2014 vintage. Pours a nice black with a finger of light tan foam. Nose is a nice combination of chocolate, licorice and ginger. Not much else really, but itís a little sweet and spicy. Taste is a chocolate covered ginger candy. Light spice and honey sweetness. You definitely get the ginger and stout, but itís not exactly like a gingerbread cookie or super complex. It is really damn tasty though.

Served in sampler. Dark brown with strong gingerbread and vanilla aroma and taste. Creamy with a great lingering finish. A very artful gingerbread stout.

Pours an opaque deep brown with a healthy off white head which lingers......aroma of nutmeg, ginger.......taste is chocolate, ginger, toasted vanilla, booze, finishing with a deep bitter finish. Quite an interesting Christmas drink.

Wow! This is a great random pick from Trader Joe's. Nice sweet gingerbread flavor and the malty hardyness of a stout. The aroma matches the taste very well and it's excellent. - Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From Fegley Brewfest. Nice aroma of ginger, spice, chocolate. The appearance is deep black, tan head. The flavor is ginger, brown sugar, spices, chocolate. The finish is spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, piney hops. Medium, slightly thick in body. Very nicely done.

Bottle [from local swap worldwide edition thanks to nimbleprop] @ weekly tasting shared with Joes and Thompson. Very dark brown to black color, average sized beige to slight brown head. Aroma is huge ginger and (Dutch) speculaas, herbs or spices. Taste malts, again huge ginger, again some "speculaas" and herbs or spices with a touch of sweet-bitter. Although, after a while you kind of get used to it and it gets a little better. That is, if you donít like herbs or spices. After a while the huge ginger subsides and becomes a bit chocolate and caramel. Smooth texture, decent body and soft carbonation. Nice treat I would never ever have tried otherwise!
