4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dunt (214) - Illinois, USA - SEP 15, 2012Received in a trade with a generous BA. Beer has piqued my interest for awhile, I’m really happy to be finally giving this a try. Pours a pitch black in color with some brown hues around the edge of the glass. Nose is gingerbread, cinnamon, nutmeg, and all spice. Normally I think the nose would be taken over with spices in this beer, but the gingerbread is holding strong. It’s prominent and pleasant. Taste is dry gingerbread, it’s not overpowering, but it’s gentle and pleasant. There is the aforementioned spice and chocolate and just a little coffee. Moderate mouthfeel, light to moderate carbonation, and a long finish. This is exactly what I was hoping for. When I heard the description, I didn’t think it would live up to the flavor, but it surpassed my expectations. This would be an excellent holiday sipper at thanksgiving or Christmas.

Bottle shared by mikem409. Pours a dark brown to black color with a small fine beige head. The aroma has light roast, chocolate, ginger with moderately sweet spices. The flavor has much of the same; chocolate, roast, gingerbread cookies. Medium plus body with a smooth presentation.

Bottle from Eric with Allen and Eric. Pours red, brown with small beige head, aromas of gingerbread, honey, wood, cinnamon, and cherry booze. Boozey cookie finish. Lots of carbonation. Liked this but wasn’t crazy about it like others.

Not quite black. dark but not 100%. no head at all. Very sweet nose. loads of cinnamon, some brown sugar and candy corn. sort of a molasses weirdness.
Yeah, it’s Christmas in a bottle but not in a good way. Yes, gingerbread but a lot of ginger, not too sweet and not insanely christmasy. Sort of roast and dry.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Atom (993) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAR 17, 2013
750ml pours dark brown/black with a large tan head. Aroma chocolate, ginger, cinnamon, clove, lots of honey, and a slight roast. Yeah taste very similar to a gingerbread cookie more clove then ginger, lots of honey toffee, vanilla, and some chocolate. Interesting and enjoyable something about honey in dark beers though.

Super carbonated, gingerbread is muted among the bubbles. Cinnamon nose; not much roast. I remember this being better.

Sampled at the CCB/RateBeer/Pre-Hunah Tasting (Tampa, FL). Pours a rich darker black pour, ominous, a decent thickness, frothy tannish head atop. Some fudgy malts, roast, gentle coffee. Some vanilla, spice. Nore ginger, cinnamon, and cocoa. Initial is firmer bodied, a bit dry and roasty up front, trailing with cocoa, coffee, gentle fudgy malts meet cinnamon, cocoa, and vanilla. Some spice. Middle is a bit more mellow dry, cinnamon and gingerbread. Cocoa, some creamy vanilla, toffee, toast. Some spice. Backend is a bit fudgy, bakers cocoa, some coffee, spice. Finish is dry, roasty, some life from the spirit, firmer bitterness, spice, bakers chocolate hang on. A dry finish. Nice. I think the non-barreled version is a touch better.

750ml bottle from a fellow Siebel student, thanks Matt! Pours a deep brown, almost black colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is fresh ginger and a nice cinnamon spice with richer chocolates and a light roast. A slight bready caramel in there too. Flavor is similar. Rich chocolates and a nice roast with a bit of a bready caramel giving this a real cookie quality. Spiced throughout, but very well balanced. Finishes dry with a bit more spice and roasts before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Smooth, medium body and a creamy, moderate carbonation. Overall, a really awesome beer. The spices are used perfectly and really make this taste like a ginger bread cookie with chocolate and roasts. Excellent stuff.
