Received in a trade with a generous BA. Beer has piqued my interest for awhile, Iím really happy to be finally giving this a try. Pours a pitch black in color with some brown hues around the edge of the glass. Nose is gingerbread, cinnamon, nutmeg, and all spice. Normally I think the nose would be taken over with spices in this beer, but the gingerbread is holding strong. Itís prominent and pleasant. Taste is dry gingerbread, itís not overpowering, but itís gentle and pleasant. There is the aforementioned spice and chocolate and just a little coffee. Moderate mouthfeel, light to moderate carbonation, and a long finish. This is exactly what I was hoping for. When I heard the description, I didnít think it would live up to the flavor, but it surpassed my expectations. This would be an excellent holiday sipper at thanksgiving or Christmas.

750 ml bottle from RABinCO back when he was RABinVA - thanks again, Ryan! Pours a deep opaque brown with a huge tan head. Aroma of ginger, chocolate, holly, pine, earth, leaves, roast, and a splash of brown sugar. The flavor is the same. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and an earthy, spicy, smooth mouthfeel. Something is a little off here. I had higher hopes. It isnít bad, just a little disappointing.

Bottle @ RBSG 2014 Grand Tasting. Very dark brown pour with a tan head. Aromas of molasses, ginger, clove, and cocoa powder. A bit of toffee and oatmeal. Decent roasted malt, too. Flavor is slightly sweet with some toffee, molasses, and oatmeal character. Mild bitterness of roasted malt and cocoa powder. Nice ginger spiciness.

Bottle I brought to the RBSG 2014 Grand Tasting at Schlafly Tap Room. 2013 release. Dark brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of ginger, mint, chocolate. Tastes of chocolate, ginger, light mint, caramel. Medium-full body with a dry finish. Better fresh but interesting to see how itís changed with some mintiness coming through..

Bottle shared by Ken at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours black with orange glints and a tan head. Aroma of gingerbread and dark malt. Full bodied. Flavor is very gingerbread over smooth dark malt. Ginger sort of functions to offset malt. It is extremely tasty.

Pours a bunrt umber color with two fingers of eggshell. Lots of gingerbread both on nose and palate but its true ginger spice and not some artificial sweet ginger... earthy molasses, spiced ginger, pepper, medium roasted malt, walnut bitterness. Nice and earthy but the body is a touch thinner than I expected... heavy carbonation keep it lighter on the mouthfeel than expected but a well done beer for sure !
