Brewed with baby ginger from Casselmonte Farm and wildflower honey from Bearer Farms, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout captures the terroir of central Virginia in a rich, creamy libation with a velvety mouthfeel and an intriguing evolution of flavors from milk chocolate and vanilla to honeycomb and cinnamon to a snap of ginger in the finish. Deep, dark chocolate in color with a mahogany tint and a frothy, caramel colored head, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout offers aromatics of holiday spice originating from the ginger, and balanced with a generous dose of whole Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans and Vietnamese cinnamon. Milk sugar (lactose) contributes to the full body of this stout and tames its roasty character, while oats lend a silky quality. Enjoy fresh, or cellar for a special occasion. We hope Hardywood Gingerbread Stout contributes to your merriment this season.

Holy crap. This really does taste like gingerbread. The only thing even close to resembling a flaw is that it’s a little too sweet.

I’ve been waiting weeks to finally sit down and try this one. Hardywood is like an hour and a half away so I can always get their awesome stuff pretty easily. Diving into this one, aroma smells like a cookie sprinkled with cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla topped with milk chocolate and ginger. It’s cool because you can pull out each individual note that gives it the aroma. Color is dark as midnight don’t even bother looking through this. Taste is chocolate, vanilla and ginger. Exactly as advertised. Nothing is overpowering or too much, just the right amount of each. It’s really smooth and creamy as well. Overall, this is one of the best stouts I’ve had. Tastes exactly as advertised and is perfectly balanced. I love that fact that they were able to make it taste like what it’s called. Great brewery and beer. Cheers!

From a trade - definitely ginger forward on the nose and plate like it should be, but also light chocolate and roast, moderate vanilla and a touch of honey. Body is thinner than expected but the flavor more than makes up for it. Delicious winter brew.

Pours pitch black and completely opaque with a two finger light beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind. Roasted malt aroma with a very prominent zesty ginger presence. Peppery and very gingery with a chocolate cookie presence. Kind of reminds me of ginger snaps. Some bready yeast, cocoa and coffee bean but the spice/ginger really overpowers things. Surprising how much this tastes like a ginger bread cookie. Sweet but not cloyingly so with strong ginger and English biscuit flavor. Tastes just like the cookie with cinnamon, brown sugar and ginger snap followed by hints of baker’s chocolate, oatmeal and subtle roast. Nicely balanced with a well masked ABV making it easy to drink. Sweet but not boozy or cloying. Great gingerbread cookie flavor but still tastes like a stout. Very good.

Pours dark brown with a light tan head. The aroma has chocolate, alcohol, ginger and woodiness. It has a medium body with semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor has dry roast, cinnamon, ginger, dry bread, cookies and an Irish stout sort of roast. The finish is quite dry.

Bottle shared by Darrin in the line for Blåbær Release 2015. Pours a dark, reddish brown with a small, tan head. Aroma has GINGER! Lots of it! And cinnamon, dough, cookies, butter, brown sugar, nutmeg, allspice. Very niec and sweet! Taste is less exciting. Sweet, spicy and a bit of cola. Roasty coffee-like finish. Light body for the style and low carbonation.

Bottle shared by a friend. A deep black pour with a tanned head. Nose is ofcourse loaded with spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, chocolate and dark malts. just full of spices and it has really nothing to do With gingerbread imo. Not my kind of beer

2/21/15. Sampled during RBWG 2015. Black pour with a nice tan head. Light ginger aroma, vanilla, loads of spice, can’t say it would specifically remind me of gingerbread. Bitter flavor, loads of spice, some sweetness, ginger, vanilla, etc. Not bad, but disappointed. Used to be overhyped for sure.
