Brewed with baby ginger from Casselmonte Farm and wildflower honey from Bearer Farms, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout captures the terroir of central Virginia in a rich, creamy libation with a velvety mouthfeel and an intriguing evolution of flavors from milk chocolate and vanilla to honeycomb and cinnamon to a snap of ginger in the finish. Deep, dark chocolate in color with a mahogany tint and a frothy, caramel colored head, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout offers aromatics of holiday spice originating from the ginger, and balanced with a generous dose of whole Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans and Vietnamese cinnamon. Milk sugar (lactose) contributes to the full body of this stout and tames its roasty character, while oats lend a silky quality. Enjoy fresh, or cellar for a special occasion. Bottle... This beer rocks!… Dark brown pour with a small, off-white head. The aroma is an intermingling of gingerbread, milk chocolate and caramel. Full-bodied and velvety with soft carbonation. Nearly mirroring the nose, the flavor is a mélange of fudge, milk chocolate and gingerbread. Finishes malty, buttery and just so dang Christmassy. Thanks to biggsbowler for providing this absolutely delicious beer!

Bottle share @ Hampton Inn pre-DLD 2016. Pour is dark tan with a light tan head. Aroma and flavor of gingerbread, booze, chocolate, wood, dough, cookies, and brown sugar. Finish has a bit more spice - nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla.

Bottle. Pours black with thick tan head. Aroma is sweet chocolate, cinnamon and ginger. Taste is sweet rich chocolate cinnamon with a ginger cinnamon chocolate finish. I like it and glad i was able to track a bottle down.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong spice, cookie, ginger. Thick mouth, chewy, with rich chocolate and light spice, hides booze well, very nice.

The beer is a very dark brown, opaque. Medium-sized head, which is light brown. Pretty good retention with a little bit of lacing. The aroma is big on ginger with flavors of chocolate and caramel, as well. Nice doughy malt flavor base. Definitely reminiscent of sweet gingerbread. Light on the roast, even pretty light on the chocolate which is more there to add some milk chocolate depth to the caramel. Ginger is very natural and fresh with a moderately spicy tone. Taste has a touch more roast, but it’s still mostly a ginger caramel sugar cookie party. Fairly sweet, maybe a bit much since there’s not a ton of complexity to the sweetness. Pretty full body. Creamier and richer than expected, and that really helps sell the ginger flavor. Overall, the ginger works quite well, but the rest of the beer is a bit boring. It’s good. There’s just not a lot of depth to it.

Bottle from my cousin John B. What a way to cap the evening, nice full bodied stout, hints of gingerbread accent rather than overwhelm the roast grain base brew. Mildly sweet and spicy with a gentle warmth to finish things up.

750ml bottle thanks to Steve. pours out dark brown almost black topped with a small head. nose is ginger bread to the max some roast malts. Taste is more of the roast malts gingerbread and some floral notes.

From notes. Shared in line while waiting on order forms for the 4 Elf Party beer release on December 11. This was shared from someone in Doug’s group. Thanks! The pour is a light black with a pretty dense can of a light brown head and no lace as it slowly falls. The aroma is actually like a booze-soaked gingerbread cookie. There is a light ginger, some good cocoa, and a cinnamon that is nice as well. The flavors are pretty similar, with the cinnamon and the actual flavor of gingerbread taking some precedence. I love the light cocoa on the back of the cookie, this is pretty good. The mouth feel is a little light. It’s got a decent carbonation, but it still a tad thin. The aftertaste is lingeringly boozy gingerbread and a little sweetness. I’m happily surprised about this one. Not bad, Hardywood.

Almost black with a reddish hue and a small tan head. Aroma is spicy and malty with ginger, juniper, cinnamon, toffee, light roasted notes with hints of chocolate. Taste is sweet, malty, spicy and soft bitter. Finish is sweet toffee, blackberries, vanilla, spicy ginger and cinnamon notes with a quite dry spicy and roasted, yet soft, bitterness. Light to medium bodied, soft to average carbonation.
Good, ginger bread it is, quite spice forward but slightly thin. The bourbon version was smoother and tastier.
