3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Kinz (2693) - Glen Allen, USA - JAN 28, 2012
Richmond 17th, 10th beer I think. Big coffee aroma, go figure. Flavor is coffee, light chocolate, faintly spicy finish. Just a touch acrid, but this was only released a day or two ago, so the acid will fall off a bit. Dry finish. Another really good beer from these guys.

750mL c&c thanks to Travlr. Clear deep mahogany poor. With medium coffee head. Spotty weak lace. Spicy jalapeño nose with DMS bell pepper and vegetables. Perhaps faux DMS brought on by inappropriate coffee adjunct. Taste is malty, starchy, oatmeal, spicy pepper, baked potato and starchy vegetables. Lots of creamed corn and milky corn soup hinting at a DMS problem.

Pours with little head, deep brown in the glass with burnt orange highlights on the edges. The aroma is sweet coffee and the taste is VERY sweet coffee blended with a medium, indistinct porter. Very rich. Too rich. Too sweet for my taste. About half a glass might be right as a dessert beverage, but not something I’d have again.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Isidor (16) - - APR 17, 2012
Had at the brewery. Very brown color, dissipating tan head. Aroma of toast, cocoa. Taste like a watery coffee with a bit of burn at the finish. Probably would not have again, not really my taste.

A pretty solid brew. Nice Belgian yeast esters, coffee, fruit, chocolate, it ins’t amazing but standard US craft beer.

Draft at the source. Very dark brown color, medium tan head, solid lacing. Aroma of burnt toast, vanilla, burnt espresso and dark cocoa. Taste is coffee grounds, black pepper and a spicy bite at the finish. Medium body. Nice stuff.

Bottle shared during the willblake’s in NJ tasting. Didn’t like this one at all. The pour was a deep burgundy/blackish body with no head at all. Aroma was dirty chocolate, earth, bad rotting coffee and lots of mud. The body was on the thin side and dead with not much carbonation at all. Flavor of bad coffee, earth, mud and rotting citrus. Blah...drainpour.

Tastes like Allagash Black brewed with coffee. A superb belgian style coffee porter. Very sessionable.

Spectacularly fresh (though I’ve only ever had it straight from the brewery). A strong, fresh coffee aroma that belies the more potent chocolate taste. Pours a dark brown, similar to a dark roast coffee. Light enough to drink on a warm day, full-bodied enough to keep you warm when there’s a chill in the air.
