COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Quadrawine is Hardywood’s first barrel-aged blend--a beast of many heads with many sharp teeth. Blending a ferocious 98 IBU barleywine style ale with a bourbon barrel aged abbey-style quadrupel, this monster will cut its teeth on your tongue with its high gravity mix of boozy heat, malty sweetness, and complementary hop character.

Thanks to Chance for sharing! The beer is dark brown with very minimal head. The aroma has a big oak presence, even tannic. Roast and chocolate. While the increased abv is well hidden, the beer really runs together with most of the rest of the beers in the series. Bourbon presence is certainly the, but not as bold as I was hoping. Slightly sweet. A bit bland. Low carbonation, almost still. Highly anticipated, this was exciting to try, but not among my favorites of the series.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2012 First, a little about this beer: This collaboration was brewed in house by Hardywood Park and Screens ’n’ suds with art design by Richmond’s Itty Bitty Press. Quadrawine will also be available on tap and in very limited, wax dipped,screen print labeled, signed/numbered edition of collectible bottles (72 bottles) at the Screens ’n’ Suds BIG EVENT on 11/3/2012 at Gallery5. Now the rating: On tap at the event. Clear reddish copper pour w/ ring of off-white head and ruby highlights. Distinctly fruity nose - notes of stone fruits - particularly that of dried apricots, malty caramel, and celery(which I found a bit out of place - but I’m willing to concede that this could have been due to the plastic cup it was served in), The flavor has even more rich fruitiness and brings notes of cherries, plums, currants, and figs. There is a substantially pronounced hop presence for a distinct bitterness which helps to balance the boozy sweetness quite nicely. This is certainly the hoppiest quad that I have ever tasted. Almost reminds me a bit of Sierra Nevada Celebration on the aftertaste. The alcohol is clearly evident, but it is just shy of being able to be called "hot". Should do very well with age. This is a fairly complex brew with lots of subtlety, and produces a very cerebral booziness the longer one drinks it.
