Our quest to brew the quintessential coffee beer began over a cupping with the coffee gurus from Richmond’s Lamplighter Roasting Company. Their Ethiopia Sidamo coffee was masterfully roasted to highlight the single origin bean’s bright, crisp body and distinctive blueberry undertones, making it harmonize beautifully with our Russian Imperial Stout. May this beer warm your spirits in these brisk winter months.

Bottle. Appearance: Black pour with ruby edges and a two finger fluffy khaki head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma: Deep roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, some molasses and nuttiness. Taste: big nutty roasted maltiness all the way thru, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, some dark dried fruits, ends coffee bitter dry and molasses sweet. Mouthfeel: medium to full body with medium carbonation. Overall: pretty solid. Wish it were a little thicker and I've had other stouts (not brewed WITH coffee) where coffee flavor was even more pronounced. I think some good barrel aging could do wonders with this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate sweet coffee, chocolate and berry aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium roasted sweet flavor with a medium complex sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

750 ml bottle shared with Tmoney99. Pours dark brown to black in color with a medium sized khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, ccoffee, dark chocolate, some mild acidity, a hint of tart fruit, this bottle seems a touch old, my first sampling of this beer had more coffee and less off character, the rating is a blend of both.

Starts off a little over carbonated, but nothing a lot Of swirling can’t tame. Coffee is subdued, but the beer opens nicely to rich coffee and malt and Java notes. Not the best, but solid.

760ml bottle pours a black color with a lot of frothy brown head. Nice coffee flavor and medium hop bitterness. Lots of flavor and nothing harsh.

Appearance: dark brown, with lighter brown at the edges; head is fulsome, midway between creamy and frothy, and dark beige. Aroma: dark chocolate, with brightly acidic espresso, and an undercurrent of molasses and some slight earthiness. Taste: bittersweet dark chocolate, dark-roasted coffee beans, a bright acidity (with a hint of possibly-imagined citrus) and a clear undertone of dark fruits (particularly blueberry!) and earth. Finish: lingering dry coffee bitterness and general roast character, with dark fruit and roasted nuts offering some nuance. Notes: Big coffee stout, but booze was very well-hidden. Slightly fruitier than similar beers in the style. Solid. Bottle from Oakton Wine Shop on Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax, Virginia.

Aroma of coffee and malt, pours a dark black with a short lasting small head. Amazing taste of coffee and malt with a syrupy feel and a mildly bitter coffee finish.
