COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and uninhibited, Hardywood Singel is a feat in balance. Sunshine golden with a fluffy head and a veil of Belgian ale yeast, Singel’s tropical fruit esters complement its spicy hop aromatics. Delicate in body, Singel’s mellow, dry finish culminates a truly ethereal experience. Hardywood Singel’s stylistic inspiration originates with the Trappist brewers of western Europe, who are often celebrated for their gloriously complex dubbels and tripels, and whose devotion to crafting heavenly libations is second to none. Unknown to many, some of the Trappist brewers also brew a milder ale for daily consumption within the walls of the monastery. Hardywood Singel is our interpretation of this style.

Draft at the source, pulled through a Randelll with citra hops, pineapple, and ginger. Cloudy golden yellow, scant white head. Aroma of of pineapple, lemon. Taste has lots of citrus, white bread, subtle white pepper. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with thin white head. Smell is of heavy banana, clove and yeasty bread notes. The taste is more bread, light fruitiness, a light hop finish. This was a very easy dinking and nice beer. Looking forward to trying more from this brewery.

I’ve never been a big fan of belgians, but this turned me around. Pours light but cloudy (it’s unfiltered) and is crisp on the tongue. Searching for the perfect warm weather beer? This is it. All of the flavor of a belgian without the high ABV. This beer will define my summer.

This is only an average beer. However I am picky with this style of beer. The flavor is there but I am not a fan ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the bottle poured a slightly cloudy, golden brew with a generous white head. The aroma was well balancedwith slight floral hints. The taste was light, well balanced with a dry finish and slight, lingering hop after taste.

Funk, rice, and honey nose, some fusel alcohol. Crystal clear amber, thin head. Much drier flavor of dandelion, with a funky undercurrent. Brief appearance of honey. Mouthfeel is thin. Nice funk, with some subtle nuances. It’s a bit milquetoast when chilled, but becomes more enjoyable closer to ambient temperature.

Nice spicy fruity nose. Yeasty clove, pepper, bread, dough, and nice fruity and peppery hops. Pours golden, some haze, nice lasting head and lace. The flavor starts fruity with nice yeast esters, flavors of dough, pepper, troipcal fruits, and citrus show up here and there. Clove, dust. Well carbonated, somewhat bitey finish with hops and carbonation. Really a nice Belgian Ale.

Draft/growler from the brewery. Mellow yellow with a slight haze, and with a nice effervescence. Sweet and fruity, this is piled with esters, and drinks with a bit of a creaminess. (#4425, 12/31/2011)

Poured from local tap a reputable place here in Richmond, VA where Hardywood is brewed. Nose is basic - little hops, little grass. Appearance is actually nice - golden with a white puffy head - pours clear. Taste - not so much. A little bitter without the character necessary to justify it. Watery and light - way too light. No heaps of yeast, no snap of hops - just a light beer flavor where a real beer flavor belongs. Can taste a little of the brewing station or something akin to metal. I’m not a fan. The finish was bad enough for me not to finish the beer. I almost never don’t finish a beer I am served.

Bottle. Deep grainy cloudy gold. Nice hoppiness and dry finish. Very enjoyable.
