COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and uninhibited, Hardywood Singel is a feat in balance. Sunshine golden with a fluffy head and a veil of Belgian ale yeast, Singel’s tropical fruit esters complement its spicy hop aromatics. Delicate in body, Singel’s mellow, dry finish culminates a truly ethereal experience. Hardywood Singel’s stylistic inspiration originates with the Trappist brewers of western Europe, who are often celebrated for their gloriously complex dubbels and tripels, and whose devotion to crafting heavenly libations is second to none. Unknown to many, some of the Trappist brewers also brew a milder ale for daily consumption within the walls of the monastery. Hardywood Singel is our interpretation of this style.

Rated 4/2/13. 750ml bottle into a Duvel tulip. A: Pours a hazy golden color. The head is a two finger white shade. It doesn’t have the thick-looking richness or great retention I expect from a BPA; otherwise the general look is fine. S: About what I expected - apple, pear, grape, bread, and noble hops to balance. No single note here is impressive, but it coalesces together admirably. T: Initial fruity tones of citrus, apple, and grape eventually build to an earthy hop tone. Additional grape flavors linger on the aftertaste pleasantly. It makes up for its modicum of depth with its rock-solid balance and easy drinking nature. M: The texture is fairly light - a great combination with the crisp, dry nature of the finish. Only thing to really complain about is that carbonation is a touch too high. O: This one doesn’t impress at first...until you realize that 2/3rds of the bottle was finished in about 10 minutes. The focus on pleasant subtlety over chest-thumping aggressiveness is something I can really appreciate here.

Ernest (7284) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 20, 2016
Draft at Tria Taproom, Philly. Head is initially average sized, creamy, white, fully lasting. Body is clear medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly yeasty (basement), with notes of banana, taffy, bubble gum. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, syrupy/creamy/watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. A banana - bubble gum bomb, unfortunately. Smells more like a Weissbier than anything else, a rather artificial one. Overly sweet in the mouth. Not very good and certainly not very Belgian.

Bottle shared @ ChrisO after GBBF Day 2. Clear pale golden color, small to average sized white head. Smell and taste malts, wheat, yeast, sweetness, floral, slightly herbs or spices, a hint of banana. Average to decent body and carbonation. Mwah, drinkable in the end although it started of a bit bad.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow body with a small thin and fizzy white head that faded to a thin film. The nose is pretty nice, lightly fruity with some pale maltiness, light hoppiness, and some banana and passionfruit like esters. The flavor is light and delicate, some Hefeweizen like fruity esters and clean pale malt. Just a little hop bitterness on the finish that helps keep the sweet and fruity flavors from getting cloying and overbearing. Light bodied and easy drinking with soft active carbonation. Pretty nice stuff, I wish the ABV were a bit lighter, but ya can’t have everything.

Draught @ Lemon, Richmond, VA. Pours clear golden with airy white head. Clear aroma of malt and yeast, with fruity hints. Bitter flavour of hops, with notes of fruit and yeast and malty touches. Bitter and slightly citric aftertaste. Okay but quite synthetically fruity.
