COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and uninhibited, Hardywood Singel is a feat in balance. Sunshine golden with a fluffy head and a veil of Belgian ale yeast, Singelís tropical fruit esters complement its spicy hop aromatics. Delicate in body, Singelís mellow, dry finish culminates a truly ethereal experience. Hardywood Singelís stylistic inspiration originates with the Trappist brewers of western Europe, who are often celebrated for their gloriously complex dubbels and tripels, and whose devotion to crafting heavenly libations is second to none. Unknown to many, some of the Trappist brewers also brew a milder ale for daily consumption within the walls of the monastery. Hardywood Singel is our interpretation of this style.

Rated 4/2/13. 750ml bottle into a Duvel tulip. A: Pours a hazy golden color. The head is a two finger white shade. It doesnít have the thick-looking richness or great retention I expect from a BPA; otherwise the general look is fine. S: About what I expected - apple, pear, grape, bread, and noble hops to balance. No single note here is impressive, but it coalesces together admirably. T: Initial fruity tones of citrus, apple, and grape eventually build to an earthy hop tone. Additional grape flavors linger on the aftertaste pleasantly. It makes up for its modicum of depth with its rock-solid balance and easy drinking nature. M: The texture is fairly light - a great combination with the crisp, dry nature of the finish. Only thing to really complain about is that carbonation is a touch too high. O: This one doesnít impress at first...until you realize that 2/3rds of the bottle was finished in about 10 minutes. The focus on pleasant subtlety over chest-thumping aggressiveness is something I can really appreciate here.

On tap at Sharkys. Opaque pale golden with big white head. Aroma is dirty socks/yeast, light body, well carbonated, and good thin small-bubble lacing. Taste is grainy, malty, and some yeasty. Nothing to write home about.

Bottle. Floral aroma. Pours golden with foamy head that fades quickly. Tastes of lemongrass, toast, wheat, and a hint of citrus. Finishes dry with a little bitterness. Nice standard Belgian Blonde.

light gold color; spicy, Belgian yeast aroma; a light beer with a spicy, fruity, Belgian yeast flavor; crisp, bitter, and very well balanced; like a very light tripel

Super crisp, golden coloured body with a nice, dense, three centimetre tall tan head - very nice and microfoamed. Aroma of ridiculously soured malt, white grapes, yeast, bread, lactic sugars and even a gueze like complexity, coupled with hay and grass - easily one of the best smelling beers iíve been around for a long time. Medium-bodied; Strong yeast and bready notes at first with a mild, yet noticeable grape and fruit flavour. Some sour lactic notes are soon around with a hit of earth, grass, hay, coriander seed, light spice and even some cherries noticeable. Aftertaste is super complex, especially for the style - if this had a belgian-styled bottle with no label, you would have never known it wasnít from the great country. Overall, a great beer, one with a ton of complexity, a rich sour note, yet remains a relatively easy-drinking beer. One of the better examples of this style iíve seen from the USA in a long while - DEFINITELY worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Falls Church (Tysonís Corner), Virginia on 06-February-2014 for US$2,49 sampled at home in Washington on 21-July-2014.

Draft - Pale golden color that is a little cloudy, has a nice white head to it that sticks around for a while. Lots of citrus flavors on the palate and nose.

Unfiltered and cloudy yellow. Taste was a bit sweet with a nice yeast strain that kept it moving down well. More tropical than spicy.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear light golden color with active carbonation. Lasting thin head and lacing. Aroma is Belgian yeast, bubble gum and slight hop note. Flavor is clean and crisp, with classic Belgian blonde flavors. Sessionable.
