COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
West Coast Style IPA. Bold, resinous and bursting with bright grapefruit aroma, this IPA is a tribute to the decades of hard work by conservationists to restore the James River as a bounty of vibrant aquatic life, eco-friendly recreational activity, and in our case, fresh brewing water. These efforts have culminated recently with the symbolic return of the endangered Atlantic sturgeon, a prehistoric, yet majestic behemoth of a fish, spotted as far up the James River as the fall line in Richmond. Your purchase of this beer supports the James River Association. Thank you for being a part of The Great Return. In our commitment to James River conservation, Hardywood will contribute $10 per barrel of The Great Return to The James River Association, to support their mission to be the guardian of the James River. The JRA’s core programs include Watershed Restoration, Education and Outreach, River Advocacy and the Riverkeeper Program.

Can from a friend. Poured a clear copper-orange color with a moderate off-white head that faded to a dense layer and left beautiful sheets of lacing. Aroma of fresh, dank hops paired with bright citrus fruit (grapefruit, orange) along with some moderate notes of pine. Smooth entry leads immediately into a fresh, floral, resin-filled hoppiness with a complementary citrus fruitiness in the form of grapefruit and softer orange that linger into the bitter finish where undertones of a sweet caramel maltiness are present. Moderate carbonation and medium mouth feel, incredibly drinkable due to the dryness imparted by the hops. Overall, a great beer if you are looking for a hop-forward, easy-drinking treat...which is exactly what they were shooting for.

Great hops out of Richmond. Nice caramel color, fruity nose, bite on the tongue that smooths to that grapefruity finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap sampler at Whole Foods in Market Square, Fairfax, VA. Clear, Holden color with a near-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma of pineapple, grapefruit and caramel. Taste of caramel, grapefruit, orange and pineapple. Medium/full body and medium carbonation. Slightly fruity west coast IPA, yet well balanced. Nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A pleasent IPA from Richmond Va. Hops bite the tounge, but malty notes shine through.

Poured a reddish-brown color. I remember honking it is darker than I imagined. Flavor was excellent. An earthy resinous hop backbone supported with grapefruit, roasted malts and something sweet...maybe cinnamon or nutmeg? Interesting. Awesome.

Pour is cloudy dark amber, a bit on the copper side, with some tight white head and solid retention. Nose has a lot of malt to it, caramel, crystal malt, hint of citrus hop but mostly stale resinous hops, a touch earthy and a faint peppery spice. Taste follows suit, malty up front, lots of crystal malt, stale hop, resinous, light biscuit, moderate citrus punch. Well carbonated, medium body, clean finish with a lingering citrus.

Pours a one finger, off-white, creamy head. Color is a clear amber with lots of lace blanketing coverage. Aroma of pine, grapefruit flesh and citrus peel. Medium body, bitter upfront and in the middle, but dries out some in the finish, but still some remaining bitterness. Tastes of pine, grapefruit flesh and peel, grass with bitterness and resinous. Quite good and I enjoyed, but needs to be more dynamic to get to next level. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
