COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This lager is served fresh from our cellar, thus earning the name "kellerbier". We keg it as we need it, ensuring no oxidisation, and the liveliest of hop and ester profiles. An unfiltered pilsner, bottom fermented at 12 deg C, this lager features all traditional pilsner characteristics, but with a pleasing creamy mouth feel.

Tap at Royston. A gutsy and ambitious project - 99% of people will have no idea what a kellerbier is, and those who’ve actually been to Franconia will know just how good kellerbier can be. It’s a tough act to follow. Anyway, it doesn’t taste much like a Franconian beer but somehow seems to taste like a kellerbier made with Australian ingredients. Clear gold, dense white head. Malt character screams ’Australia’ to me (though I could quite easily be wrong) - vanilla and M&M shells - and there’s a decent amount of sweetness present. Hops are fairly light on (slight floral aroma, maybe) though bitterness is relatively forceful and bordering on harsh. Appropriate level of yeast character, but kind of in the wrong spectrum. Raw yeastiness and glue, vaguely reminiscent of CUB for some reason. None of that beautiful Lifesaver ester stuff you get in Franconia, unfortunately. Relatively low carbonation and full body, enhanced by the sweetness. Only OK, but could develop into something good. I’d love to see a barrel sitting on the bar in Yarra Glen one day.

14-Jan-2011 (MrsParma) - Light hop & very light fruit aroma.Clear gold colour & reasonable white head & sheet lacing. Light honey and citrus, light spice flavour. Chemical cloying bitter hop finish, a bit thin and somehow wrong.

Draught. Easy drinking Keller - a touch of sweetness from the honey. Pretty clean.

Tap. Interesting. Aromas of citrus, and hay. Taste is sweet and sour, with average duration. Palate is oily, with a medium body. Pale yellow, with a frothy white head.
