Bottle @ Fanø Slumber Party, 2012.
[thanks bluebetty]
Pours opaque black with a lovely, staying, creamy, beige head. Aroma has chocolate, light coffee, Nutella, cocoa nibs, light soy sauce. Medium carbonation, nice dry and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has a lot of chocolate, liqourice, coffee, vinious. Elegant cocoa, light sweetness and a hint of anise. Nice.

Wasn’t really sure what to expect with this. 2013 bottle. Huge aroma on opening, lots of fruit, warm booze and vanilla. Taste is bitter vanilla and cocoa, mix of fruits - sultana, raisin, and plums. A lot better than I was expecting. Real enjoyable

On tap at The Tipplers Tap. Huge Vegemite aroma, not much hint of the huge alcohol content, lingering roasted flavours. A very good beer.

Tap @ Scratch Bar as part of the Weekend of Darkness event 200714. Big, black and boozy. Tan head with a dry finish and vanilla, chocolate and a faint hint of spiced fruit in the flavour.

(Bottle) Opaque lack with decent tan head. Good aroma with almost burnt dark roast malt, hints of coffee and chocolate. Amazing palate, rich, creamy, velvety and with good carbonation. There is also some stickiness to the palate. Good taste, with dominant very dark roast malt giving strong bitter, almost burnt flavours. Layered on this are rich sweet toffee notes and hints of chocolate. No hit of the alcohol. The finish is long and mixes sweetness and dark, rather than poppy, bitterness. An impressive beer.

dark pitch black poor with a wee beige head. aroma of all the stout classics chocolate, coffee, slight vanilla. Great dessert stout. Flavour was rich oily. Really enjoy a stout with the lot occasionally.

Bottle from Slowbeer (2011 release). Dark, oily black, solid, fine tan head, lots of roast malt, vanilla, dark chocolate, quite bitter, espresso coffee, but solid malt sweetness to balance. Rich and silky texture. Really great beer, up there with Nail Clout for me.

Bottle cheers to Mitch for his stout off. 2011 edition. Pours black with a small beige head leaving spotty lacing. Nose shows some heavy bitterness, vanilla, sultana and dry cocoa. All seems quite balanced. Unfortunately I think it may be past it and a little oxidised. It shows a fair bit of spritzy carbonation and sharp bitterness. Chocolate sultana comes through with sweet vanilla. Boozy heat on the finish. It’s ok but it just is a little all over the place

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2014 Black with light tan head. Aroma is dark oily malts. Taste is the same but with a thick mouthfeel and a noticeable astringency. Sweet at end, which lingers long after. Too much molasses and prune flavours here for me - wish it was just a touch more drinkable.

Bottle says 12.3 ABV A-- Poured a brownish black color and settled midnight black. No light visible. Two finger dark brown leather head that slowly fell to a thick mocha colored film. Nice spotty lacing with this and obvious ABV legs. Impressive looking beer. S-- Lots of roast, followed by fig, almond, caramel, milk chocolate and dark stewed plumb. For such a large beer ABV wise it is quite impressive how well the 12.3 is restrained and such a complex nose. Nose has elements of US sweetness in this style and holds the European roastyness well. T-- Big and bold. Subtle caramel sweetness with a lot of roast, char, and burnt rubber. Once again alcohol is well hidden and just a good mix of flavors. M-- Slick and oily. Lots of smooth dairy milk and caramel in the mid palate. Alcohol is more obvious and starts creeping up. Not as big in the feel as the taste is though. Low carbonation with medium body. O-- Really nice RIS. Has US elements and has European elements blended together well. Quite brash and aggressive but very smooth and drinkable.
