COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our brewer’s version the India Pale Ale style of beer, it is the overall most popular of our 5 flagship ales at the Harmon. It is also the first beer brewed on the original equipment in august 1997. The recipe has evolved throughout the years, but has remained the same since 2006. The Point Defiance IPA uses Columbus and Centennial hops for bitterness and flavor, plus ten pounds of Amarillo hops to dry hop. Four types of malted barleys make up the grain bill. This is the brewer’s "favorite child". 6.1% ABV and 70 IBUs.

Pours a medium gold with a tall white head. The aroma is soft citrus and pine resin. The flavor is bitter but well balanced with s nice dryness as it moves to the finish.

Keg at the Harmon Taproom on St Helens, 07/11/14. Hazed golden orange with moderate off white spotting. Nose is pine, grapefruit, orange pith, mandarin, light skunky hops. Taste comprises bitter grapefruit, pine, hoppy wanderings, orange pith. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a bitter hoppy linger. Decent enough IPA.

Draft pour at 192 lake trail taproom. From my notes. Pours a copper color with an incredible fresh hop aroma. This beer had me from there. Nice, hoppy IPA that’s simple to drink and very refreshing. Finishes slightly on the bitter side. Really enjoyed this one.

Pint on tap. Clear, pretty white head, good bubbly persistent head, laces well. Pretty grassy taste, a little grapefruit, some citrus, slight floral, decent. Nice IPA, recommended.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a hazy amber to red/orange (tinted along the sides) color. There was a light half finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing conveying itself along the sides of the glass. The smell had a decent intrusive citrus to piney bitterness. The taste followed the aroma in a nice way. On the palate, this one sat right about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp and wanted to try to be invasive to pummel my tongue into submission but it didn’t. Overall, this was a mostly decent AIPA that I think I could have again.

On tap at the brew pub. Clear amber pour with a white head. Smooth and creamy. Not really overwhelmingly bitter. Nice malty backbone. Somewhat bland and nondescript hops. Average body and mouthfeel.

Roll this beer if drinking from the bottle, as it was separated. Very dry and bitter on the bottom. Refreshingly did not have grapefruit profile that a lot of big IPA’s have nowadays.

Nice IPA. Tastes stronger than its ABV, like a double IPA. Reminds me of Silver City St Florian.

Bottle. Pours a rather hazy amber color with a moderate light tan head on it. Nose is light with some floral elements to it, though the smell is not overwhelming. Taste is bitter and quite dry, though somewhat long lasting on the palate.

Soft orange aroma. Looks fine, bitterness and amarillo are out center stage as they should be, but tamed nicely with a bit of sweetness.
