3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Theydon_Bois (2957) - The ’Sham, Surrey, ENGLAND - NOV 25, 2012
Tap at Brouwer’s Cafe, Seattle - 08/11/12.
Mid black with a thin tan head that clears to the edge and forms a pond.
Nose is big on roast malts, milk chocolate, liqourice, molasses.
Tastes of milk choclate, molasses, touch of wood, roast malts, a little smoke.
Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a slightly bitter roasty finish.
A good porter!

Bomber purchased at the brewery. Pours a lovely brown with a great tan head the stayed forever and left lovely lacing. The aroma is malt, caramel, and coffee. The flavor is a great mix of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. On the palate it is thick and silky, but leaves fairly quickly. This beer was gone too soon.

This is an interesting and tasty brew, but in a blind taste test, I may not guess it to be a porter. To me it tastes akin to maritime dark ale. Brown, rich cola pour with a slight off-white head. Mild toasted nuts and light smoke in the aroma. Taste is very hoppy and juicy, lemon, limes and melons, some bitter chocolate and a bit of roastedness. Lots of sourness like a Flanders oak aged red, with cherries. Interesting for sure, tasty, but odd. Thank André.

Great porter. The most smooth one I've had to date. Dark mahogany (sp) color. Minimal head and lacing. Good roasty flavor.

Draft at the brewery
Deep brown with a tan head. Smoky chocolate malts and rich coffee in the nose. Flavor is semi-harsh chocolate, sweet with some oak flavors. A very good porter, almost to style but a little more smoky than the ideal. Sweet, rich and finishing with some smoky dark fruit.

Dark opaque brown color, small steady beige head. Aroma of coffee and some sweetish licorice. Medium-bodied. Smooth palate. Sweetish toasted malty, a bit milky, coffee and dark malts. Chocolate too. Really tasty and balanced porter!

On tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown to black with a dark beige head. Has a mild roasted coffee aroma. This is a great porter taste and true to style. A really good palate: mild and not too thick or creamy. Just right for a porter.

[Sample - Brewery]
A deep bropwn color with a very thin head. This had aroma, flavor, looks, and was a very good beer to drink. This was perfect for lunch,. I really liked the dark malts and the flavors. Good job.

Tap at Saffron Grill.
Deep pour, nice roasty flavor with coffee and an enjoyable but not overbearing sweetness. Slightly nutty, well balanced, and quite a bit better than I would have expected.

22 oz bottle brought back from the brewery by good my friend Leems. Pours black as pitch with a decent tan head that is gone quick. Aroma is largely roast, some coffee, chocolate and maybe even some raisins or plums. Flavor is mostly roasted coffee/chocolate, but with light hints of caramel and vanilla. Perhaps a little lighter in mouth than I would prefer, but still a very tasty brew. I would like to try more from this brewery.
