COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
ABOUT Rauchfetzen Brew Date: 10/17/08 Packaging Date: 10/31/08 Harpoon Rauchfetzen is the 25th offering from our 100 Barrel Series. We used beechwood smoked malt from Bamberg, Germany to craft this copper-colored ale that evokes Rauchfetzen, a poetic German word meaning “wisp of smoke.” While many smoked beers are heavy on the pallet, this beer allows the character of the smoked malt to play off the herbal bitterness of Hallertau hops and the fresh, bread-like quality of Munich and Pilsner malts. Enjoy this beer with a variety of cheeses and sausages. BREWED BY This beer was brewed by Charlie Cummings, Harpoon brewer AVAILABLE FROM November 2008 to .... this was a weird brew. Had an aroma of smoked sausage, and the taste was pretty much the same, I’ll give it credit for being different, but I didn’t really like this guy.

Bottle from Jungle Jim’s. Poured clear golden color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate smoke malty and hop aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet smoke flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectation where exceeded and went well with cheese and crackers during game.

On tap. Light amber with a thin head that dissapates quickly. Smells of light smoke and bready malt. Flavor is very light with some plain biscuit and woody smoke. It finishes dry with no particular finishing flavor. Not bad, but nothing stands out for this beer.

Amber color with a white head. Aroma of smoke, hops, and some yeast. Flavor of yeast, caramel, hops, and smoke. Not bad at all.

Pours a clear light amber with a tall sudsy head. The smell is very muted with malt undertones. The initial taste is light on the tongue with a dominant smokey flavor. The taste finishes with a slightly yeasty bread flavor with some hints of cereal at the very end. This would be a decent beer to compliment a meal with hearty German fare - think sausages and schnitzels. Overall a pretty enjoyable beer for a cold day.

Tap at Barcade. Deep amber beer. Aroma is lightly spicy. A bit of very light smokiness and a kiss of toasted malt. A little bit soapy though. A bit of tartness on the back. Quite non-descript and a little bit watery. Meh.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of Hallertau hops, light smoke, malts, and slight caramel. Poured amber in color with a tiny, fizzy, white head that disappeared. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is lightly bitter. Tastes of smoked bamburg wood, light meat, Hallertau hops, wood, caramel, slight dough, and some herbs. Medium body. Tingly, dry texture. Average carbonation. Smoked, woody, finish is dry.

100 Barrel Series Bomber from Chevy Chase Wine and Liquors, brought across the country to share with my girlfriend who loves smoked beers. Pours golden orange with a tan fluffy head. Nose is sweet with light smoke, not big in any regard. Taste is smoky light and malty, decently tasty and drinkable.

Bomber - Poured a clear darkish amber in color with a small whitish head that quickly faded to a thin rim around the top of the beer, Aroma is faint of the smokiness with some sweet maltiness besides. Flavor is quite smoky with plenty of the malt structure coming through. Nice palate. Interesting... and good...
