COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Harpoon 100 Barrel Series Ginger Wheat Ale is an ode to brewer Scott Shirley’s favorite spice, ginger. The earthy, warming flavor of this golden-hued ale is derived from fresh ginger. Honey from a local New Hampshire farm yields a slight sweetness to balance the ginger spiciness. A small addition of Apollo hops adds floral notes to the aroma, while a hint of lemon adds acidity and rounds out the ginger flavor. Warm up your chilly winter nights with this ginger spiced beer.

Bottle. Light to moderate hay, flowers and perfume for the malt and hops, light soap for the yeast, with notes of honey, ginger and lemon peel. Head is small, fizzy, white with no lacing and is mostly diminishing. Coloris sparkling clear light amber. Falvor starts moderately acidic and the long finish is lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, watery with a lively carbonation. All of the adjuncts in this beer stand out nicely in the finish.

Ginger, citrus, and grassy hops in the aroma. Flavor starts with malt and grassy hop bitterness Ginger, citrus, and some alcohol in the finish. I love ginger, but if you don’t you won’t like it as much as me.

22 oz bottle. Pours orange/gold with a 1/2" off white head. Aroma is heavy on the ginger. Flavor is also mostly ginger with a bit of wheat and malt. Moderate bodied. Ok, but to heavy on the ginger.

9/3/12. On tap at Kickback’s. Clear golden pour with a nice khaki head that laces a ton. Light wheat and citrus on the aroma with barely a kick of spicy sweetness. Sweet wheat and citrus along with a touch of sweet ginger. There’s also a lingering tannic bitterness. Eh.

650 ml bottle. Pours golden with a slim head. The nose has ginger powder or preserved ginger, almost ginger ale if that doesn’t sound too obvious. The taste has more tangy ginger, this time more of the fresh stuff. The palate is medium bodied with a long tight texture and a long tangyu finish. Overall, great balance though slightly missing the wheat aspect.

A perfect beer for autumn, it pours a golden honey color, with a prominent ginger aroma. Ginger and honey come through on the taste as well, as does a slight citrus.

650 ml bottle, session #42. Bright honey gold color topped by a large bubbly white head. Fragrant ginger, lemon aroma. Dryish ginger and honey flavor. Reminds me of a cough drop. Light body and flavor. Tasty and refreshing. Brief dry finish.

Bottle sample at a tasting at idonis’ place. Thanks Dagan. Clear golden with a wave of white film. Smells of ginger, candy and alcohol, tastes ginger, alcoholic, sweet but delicate. Sleek medium body.
