4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 SPDickerman (698) - Texas, USA - JUN 18, 2012
Pours clear golden orange with a large white head. Smells mildly funky with lots of ginger and some subtle wheat notes. Taste is refreshing ginger with sweet wheat character and hints of lemon and honey. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and average mouth-carbonation, Harpoon 100 Barrel Series #42 - Ginger Wheat finishes with a touch of ginger spiciness.

Bottle. Pours clear gold with soapy white head. Aroma of ginger, herbal and spicy. Flavor is much the same with a nice maltiness and light alcohol spice. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Overall, not bad at all buy I probably would enjoy this more if it were a bit on the lighter side in this Texas heat.

Picked this up on a whim.
Pours a deep golden color with a stingy white head that dissipates quickly and leaves minimal lacing. The aroma is overwhelmingly ginger with some honey and lemon overtones. At first the smell reminded me of the Japanese steak house then I imagined halls honey lemon cough drops. Taste is more ginger with honey and lemon in there for fun. I got a hint of alcohol in an otherwise dry finish. Slightly syrupy/watery mouthfeel, medium to thin body and carbonation. Well this one isn’t one of my favorites. It grew on me after a while, but reminded me a lot of some gruits I’ve tried. One and done.

February 19, 2010 tasting with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc & mabel. My 22oz bottle. Hazy gold pour with an average, bog-standard white bottle head. Sharp aroma, fresh ginger and hand soap (??! - 6-). The taste is lovely - fresh ginger, a welcome dearth of Jergens - maybe a little sweet, but simple and refreshing. Average body, strong carbonation (aren’t all ginger beers big on the fizzy?), slightly sticky in the finish. Didn’t like the aroma much, but overall a solid ginger beer.

My brother was kind enough to give me a bottle of Harpoon Ginger Wheat. Based on past ginger beers I’ve had this bottle went to the cellar. Finally got around to drinking it and I must say it was a well made beer. Sweet aroma, lemon zest, ginger slight twang, golden body and brief pillow case head. Not sure how old the bomber of Ginger Wheat was I consumed however it settled into a drinkable spiced wheat beer.

Fantastic! I love ginger - the spice is subtle and the beer is surprisingly refreshing, not sticky, not sweet. They hit a home run with this one.

22 ounce bottle courtesy of Butters. Thanks! Sampled at the 11th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 4/17/10. Pours a lemon yellow color with a a very light haziness. Medium head with good head retention and lacing. Aroma of ginger, citrus, kitchen cleaner and bread. The taste is candied ginger and citrus with just a faint medicinal quality. Medium bodied. Not too great.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a moderate linen white head that lasted through the first two sips and left scant lace. Pleasant aroma of ginger along with some mild honey sweetness. The flavor really stands out with a well balanced combination of ginger, wheat and sweet honey. This beer goes down way too easily. Mild bitterness at the finish. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this beer.
