COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Harpoon 100 Barrel Series Ginger Wheat Ale is an ode to brewer Scott Shirley’s favorite spice, ginger. The earthy, warming flavor of this golden-hued ale is derived from fresh ginger. Honey from a local New Hampshire farm yields a slight sweetness to balance the ginger spiciness. A small addition of Apollo hops adds floral notes to the aroma, while a hint of lemon adds acidity and rounds out the ginger flavor. Warm up your chilly winter nights with this ginger spiced beer.

FROTHINGSLOSH (4763) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 15, 2013
Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy apricot color with a medium sized soapy white head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was wheat, ginger and dryish clove. The flavor was wheat, clove, nutmeg, ginger powder and pepper. Medium length dry ginger powder and nutmeg finish. Medium body. Ok.

Super hazy golden coloured body with a very thin, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of ginger (of course), malt, wheat, coriander seed and a bit of lemons - but the ginger is potent and strong. Medium-bodied; Super strong ginger flavour with a good wheat and yeast flavour soon afterwards with a deep, pungent spice note at the end. Aftertaste is strong and bitter with the ginger and a bit of sweetness coming through. Overall, a strong and potent wheat with a ton of ginger flavours - nice, but perhaps a bit too potent. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 09-June-2012 for US$6.50 sampled at home in Washington on 30-July-2012.

22oz bottle shared at the DC Local tasting. Pours a totally clear, yellow gold with a cloudy white head. Strong aroma of ginger, all spice, nutmeg and one person remarked "a little household cleaner." Flavor is big, right on the tongue, raw ginger. There’s some sweetness too. Dry finish with some spicy ginger heat. If you like ginger then this is for you.

16 ounce pint - $6.75 at Taco Mac in Suwanee, Georgia. Appearance: Hazed, burnished gold body with a very thin, white head. Smell: Well, it certainly has a pungent ginger aroma. There are other notes of other what-have-yous in the nose, but it’s hard to get around the fragrant ginger. Taste: Slight initial taste of malted wheat then a bold zip of ginger snaps you to attention. Fairly sweet. Particularly lemony, but, now I see lemon juice was used in the brewing process, so there ya go. Sweet ginger on the finish with a lingering ginger burn on the tongue. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-light carbonation. Drinkability: Why, it’s like a Vernor’s Ginger Ale with alcohol! Not that that’s a bad thing, mind you. Seems like this would be well suited to Asian cuisine.

Pours a slightly hazed gold into a shaker. Bright white micro head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Immediate ginger aromas with some hidden wheat. Crisp ginger from front to back with some wheat fullness into a lasting ginger burn. Very nice.

The aroma is a bit funky but has a bit of ginger and honey. The appearance is golden with a thin head. The taste is like aroma with a malty finish. The palate is smooth. Overall it’s good but muted I seem to have a thing for ginger.

Tap @ TacoMac, Alpharetta. Golden pour. Aroma of fresh ginger slices. Flavor of very spicy ginger ale (soda). This is an authentic Ginger Ale. Vernors, Schwepps all with the beer character added (alcohol). Spicy hot ginger tingle on the tongue.
