COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Harpoon 100 Barrel Series Ginger Wheat Ale is an ode to brewer Scott Shirleyís favorite spice, ginger. The earthy, warming flavor of this golden-hued ale is derived from fresh ginger. Honey from a local New Hampshire farm yields a slight sweetness to balance the ginger spiciness. A small addition of Apollo hops adds floral notes to the aroma, while a hint of lemon adds acidity and rounds out the ginger flavor. Warm up your chilly winter nights with this ginger spiced beer.

Thanks to HogTownHarry for sharing this. Appearance: Slightly cloudy orange, clean white head. Aroma: Like a ginger chew, somewhat soapy, Harry mentioned a urinal cake and I canít disagree, very sweet ginger. Flavour: Caramel, ginger, very zingy, quite a soapy finish, weird but good.

12/17/2009 Picked this up on a whim. Pours a deep golden color with a stingy white head that dissipates quickly and leaves minimal lacing. The aroma is overwhelmingly ginger with some honey and lemon overtones. At first the smell reminded me of the Japanese steak house then I imagined halls honey lemon cough drops. Taste is more ginger with honey and lemon in there for fun. I got a hint of alcohol in an otherwise dry finish. Slightly syrupy/watery mouthfeel, medium to thin body and carbonation. Well this one isnít one of my favorites. It grew on me after a while, but reminded me a lot of some gruits Iíve tried. One and done.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a really clear golden yellow colored body leaving a one finger white foamy and fizzy head that quickly dies. The body is too hazy for any carbonation to be seen rising. Lacing is ringy and slightly spotty underneath the rings that form. The smell had wheat with some lemon juice and ginger more so in the background. The taste had a powerful ginger with the lemon juice and wheat more subdued. The palate had a light to medium body with some harsh prickly bitterness hitting the tongue hard, very powerful, probably the ginger. It leaves a very dry afteraste and a bitter finish. It is moderately drinkable. Overall, not bad, different. Iím not sure if I would come back to this, perhaps to try it fresh.

On tap. Pours a hazy golden color with a large white head. Aroma is predominantly fresh ginger, with some sweet fruit notes. The ginger is very dominating at first in the taste, but afterward slight hints of citrus came through.

Bottle. Light to moderate hay, flowers and perfume for the malt and hops, light soap for the yeast, with notes of honey, ginger and lemon peel. Head is small, fizzy, white with no lacing and is mostly diminishing. Coloris sparkling clear light amber. Falvor starts moderately acidic and the long finish is lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, watery with a lively carbonation. All of the adjuncts in this beer stand out nicely in the finish.

Clear golden with a huge frothy cream colored head that leaves moderate lacing. Plenty of ginger in the aroma, with some citrus and wheat. Taste is lightly sweet and spicy, but thereís not much to it. Medium bodied, smooth, and somewhat dry. Too bad it isnít as good as it smells.

Pours clear golden-orange with a bubbly white head. Ginger and wheat aroma. Taste is freshly-grated ginger over malty wheat and lemon zest. Nice balance of flavors.

Pretty refreshing. Mix of flavors between a real ginger ale and a wheat beer. This could be good but taste is flat.
