COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Harpoon 100 Barrel Series Ginger Wheat Ale is an ode to brewer Scott Shirleyís favorite spice, ginger. The earthy, warming flavor of this golden-hued ale is derived from fresh ginger. Honey from a local New Hampshire farm yields a slight sweetness to balance the ginger spiciness. A small addition of Apollo hops adds floral notes to the aroma, while a hint of lemon adds acidity and rounds out the ginger flavor. Warm up your chilly winter nights with this ginger spiced beer.

The aroma is a bit funky but has a bit of ginger and honey. The appearance is golden with a thin head. The taste is like aroma with a malty finish. The palate is smooth. Overall itís good but muted I seem to have a thing for ginger.

650 ml bottle. Pours golden with a slim head. The nose has ginger powder or preserved ginger, almost ginger ale if that doesnít sound too obvious. The taste has more tangy ginger, this time more of the fresh stuff. The palate is medium bodied with a long tight texture and a long tangyu finish. Overall, great balance though slightly missing the wheat aspect.

Bottle. Light to moderate hay, flowers and perfume for the malt and hops, light soap for the yeast, with notes of honey, ginger and lemon peel. Head is small, fizzy, white with no lacing and is mostly diminishing. Coloris sparkling clear light amber. Falvor starts moderately acidic and the long finish is lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, watery with a lively carbonation. All of the adjuncts in this beer stand out nicely in the finish.

Bottle. Poured clear amber color with an average frothy to large white head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate wheat, citrus hop and light ginger aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium spicet & sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where just met.

Pale yellow. Aroma is ginger and a hint of peach. Flavor is lightly of wheat, followed by ginger. Not aggresive, pretty balanced. Not bad. Sweetness on the finish detracts a touch.

12/17/2009 Picked this up on a whim. Pours a deep golden color with a stingy white head that dissipates quickly and leaves minimal lacing. The aroma is overwhelmingly ginger with some honey and lemon overtones. At first the smell reminded me of the Japanese steak house then I imagined halls honey lemon cough drops. Taste is more ginger with honey and lemon in there for fun. I got a hint of alcohol in an otherwise dry finish. Slightly syrupy/watery mouthfeel, medium to thin body and carbonation. Well this one isnít one of my favorites. It grew on me after a while, but reminded me a lot of some gruits Iíve tried. One and done.

Pretty refreshing. Mix of flavors between a real ginger ale and a wheat beer. This could be good but taste is flat.

Clear golden with a huge frothy cream colored head that leaves moderate lacing. Plenty of ginger in the aroma, with some citrus and wheat. Taste is lightly sweet and spicy, but thereís not much to it. Medium bodied, smooth, and somewhat dry. Too bad it isnít as good as it smells.

Super hazy golden coloured body with a very thin, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of ginger (of course), malt, wheat, coriander seed and a bit of lemons - but the ginger is potent and strong. Medium-bodied; Super strong ginger flavour with a good wheat and yeast flavour soon afterwards with a deep, pungent spice note at the end. Aftertaste is strong and bitter with the ginger and a bit of sweetness coming through. Overall, a strong and potent wheat with a ton of ginger flavours - nice, but perhaps a bit too potent. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 09-June-2012 for US$6.50 sampled at home in Washington on 30-July-2012.
