This beer is brewed with our proprietary yeast Ė the same yeast weíve used since first brewing Harpoon Ale Ė and some interesting hop varieties. The combination of Pale, Rye, Caramel 60, Flaked Rye, and Vienna yield a complex malt body that stands up to the spiciness of the rye and the pronounced hop flavor. The rye also adds a reddish hue to the beer. The kettle additions of Centennial, Apollo, and Chinook, and the dry hop addition of Falconerís Flight add a multidimensional hop character.

Bottle from ABC on Apalachee. Copper pour with thin dirty white head. Aroma is sweet malt and cereal. Tastes are orange, pine, pepper and toffee. Light bitter finish. Yeah, pretty decent.

pretty good IPA. verry nice amber/copper color. Aroma has more prevalent citrus notes than hop notes in the aroma. Taste is citrusy up front with a hoppy finish. Pretty good!

A nice, smooth rye IPA. Nice hop balance with a healthy bitterness. Pours a dark golden with a thick, frothy head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Complex hop profile with loads of pine and spicy peppery rye. Not the best Rye IPA Iíve had, but far better than other Harpoon offerings Iíve consumed. I love this category in general!

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2013 Looks great, nice dark copper with a foamy tan head. Looks viscous as it pours. Really nice mouthfeel, soft fizz with a thick body. Very interesting aroma, plenty of floral hops but there is an underlying graininess to it and rising booze once it has warmed. The flavor has a lot of pine cleaner harshness on top of whatís seems be a really nice blend of floral hops and spicy rye.

9/19/2013: Harpoon Rich & Danís Rye IPA... Aroma: Malty with honey overtones; some ripe citrusy hops, but not much. Appearance: Deep golden color with a dense, lasting ivory-colored head; mostly clear with minimal visible carbonation. Flavor: Caramel maltiness with a minimal amount of spiciness coming through, so itís not really clear if thatís from the rye or the hops; soft, citrusy-resiny hops in the middle with a moderate bitterness showing up in the backend and lasts through the finish; earthy undertones throughout. Palate: Medium-bodied; smooth texture and creamy mouthfeel. Overall: This is a pretty good beer beer, but seems to drink a bit too heavy for an IPA; needs more hops and bitterness and Iíd always apprecaite a little less alcohol (but thatís probably just me!). 12 fl. oz. bottle (6.9% ALC/VOL; Enjoy by 8/15/13 094) from Brian. Rating #261 for this beer.
