COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hearty malt base is complemented by sweet cherry juice and cocoa nibs added during fermentation in this decadent take on a traditional porter. Notes of rich chocolate and a hint of cherry sweetness make this full-bodied porter the perfect treat to share now or the cellar until next Valentine’s Day.

Shared at Haand Festival 2014. Thick dark brown body with a lively light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, bourbon, roasted malt. Taste of licorice, cherry, coffee and alcohol. Taste feels weaker than expected, though the cherries add some interesting elements.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2014 vintage bottling. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, lightly tart cherry, cocoa, toast, dark bread, roasted malt, brown sugar, light coffee, raisin, plum, herbal, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt, cherry, and light-moderate yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of milk chocolate, lightly tart cherry, cocoa, toast, dark bread, roasted malt, brown sugar, light coffee, raisin, plum, herbal, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cherry, cocoa, toast, dark bread, roasted malt, brown sugar, light coffee, raisin, plum, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roasted/bready malt, cherry, and fruity yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/fruitiness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good imperial English porter style. All around good balance and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt, cherry, and fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. I would have liked a bit more cherry presence; but as an general English imperial porter, it was very enjoyable overall.
