3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the Harpoon IPA-mix pack. Pours out a deep russet brown with a light tan head that sticks around a while. Light hoppy and roasty aromas. Flavor is plenty malty with a bitter hop backbone. Not overdone. Quite drinkable with a light sticky bitter finish.

12oz bottle into Le Duvel - nose is roast, citrus and bad water. Sip creates a more positive experience with coffee and more coffee. Long hop bitter finish with an upfront dark chocolate bitterness. Brutish and lacking smoothness.

Dark color with an light tan head. Nice hoppy aroma. Taste not as hoppy as expected but a good long-lasting bitter flavor throughout with a nice roasted malt balance. Enjoyable drink

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours near black with a beige head. Aroma of floral and citrusy hops, lightly roasted and chocolate notes, some dough and bread notes. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not bad for the style.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
From a bottle. Pours very dark brown with almost no head. Tastes very bitter, bready, like coffee and hops. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like dark chocolate, coffee, and wheat.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Love the color, character, and complexity of this brew. Loved the smokey flavor... A bit more hops in my ipa please... Missing a little of the bitter finish and aroma of other ipas... Makes up for it in smoky flavor and overall a good beer

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Growler from the brewery in Boston. Noted by the barman as 6.2% ABV. First off, I should note that the growler system kind of sucks; after just two days the carbonation is all but gone. Pours clear brown with a few bubbles for a head. Toasted, lightly doughy brown bread on the nose, hints of burnt pine and cocoa. Light-medium sweet with more simple, toasty bread, mellow bitterness, some earth, milk chocolate. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Toasty bread finish, mild cocoa, earth, dried berries. Poor condition aside, this is still a very simplistic Black IPA.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From a party at work: Pours quite dark brown with a creamy beige head. Aroma is slightly darkish malts with a whole bunch of citrus and resin. Taste is pretty much black IPAish. Nice combination. Nice long and bitter aftertaste. Not overly complex, but nice fast drinker.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted at the Harpoon Brewery in Boston.
Dark brown, nearly black where no light shines through. Small, but lasting head. Ample lace.
Elements of darker porters start the aroma. Not burnt, more dark chocolate. Little hop.
Less bitter than most IPAs, but that may be from the stronger roasted malts. Full bodied with an above average carbonation level. Overall, less IPA and more deeply roasted Porter.
