3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Thorpe429 (3542) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - APR 14, 2011
Reviewed from notes.
Served in a tulip glass. Pours a moderate brown color with an off-white head. Two fingers of lacing settle down with some nice carbonation bubbles floating on top. The nose is lightly-toasted malt with some chocolate, caramel, toffee, and a bit of yeast. The taste is pretty nice and mellow with toffee and very mild chocolate. Good body and carbonation; a nice, drinkable brew.

I had this beer a while back and from what I can remember I enjoyed it. I’ve had this at the pub/brewery so it was fresh.
Nothing special about it is popping into my head at the moment.

Part of Beer of the month selection. Not a bad brown ale but lacks a little something . Toffee and caramel flavors but all a bit muted. Drinkable but not special. Serving: Bottle

Drank out of a Harpoon mix pack. Taste is sweet, with a mixture of caramel, brown sugar and molasses all coming through. Taste stays well all the way down. Overall this was the best beer from the mix pack.

on tap at the Boston airport Harpoon brewhouse. Nice chestnut brown body that is clear, small white head. Nice nutty woody vanilla flavor and aroma. Overall: a very simple but solid beer. I always forget about this style but, if done correctly (as in this case), it can be very pleasant. A great style for the fall.

Bottle. Pour a brune body with an off white head. Herbal nutty caramel notes, some lighter toffee, and ash with a light sweetness and a bitter finish. Chocolate notes and an earth y bittering finish. Decent session brown.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 EithCubes (3050) - GERMANY - DEC 14, 2009
Bottle. Too-sweet nose with - strangely - some medium American citric hop accents over the light nuts and malt. Amber-mahogany pour, clear and beautifully gradient, with a sudsy, lacing/rocky tan head. Taste is sharp, light bitterness with low sweetness, crisp earth and toffee strike, bit of baker’s chocolate in the bg. Very light tang. Malt is a little toward the back, otherwise this is perfectly balance with a bright and punchy hop-half. Light body and smooth carbonation, touch of bread and grass in the finish. Agreed, an excellent session, and much better than the last I’d had from these guys.

Aroma of toasted malts, nuts. Appearance is dark brown, reddish tinge, tan head. The flavor is malts, bread, nuts. The finish is light hop bittering. The mouthfeel is thin/medium. Not bad, but hardly great.
