COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Hibernian Ale and Celtic Ale.

Having brewed in South Boston since 1987, it was probably only a matter of time before we decided to commemorate St. Patrick’s Day (Evacuation Day - coincidentally a holiday - in Boston). It’s a beer that we thought would pair well with the late winter as well: malty enough to stand up to the cold but balanced enough to hint at Spring.

Description
Harpoon Celtic Ale features a deep ruby color, medium body, and a balanced malt bill created by Irish Ale malt and a touch of roasted barley. Rich in tradition and sessionable in character, Harpoon Celtic is the ideal Spring seasonal. Available on tap: January-March.

Transfer from BA review on 3-14-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance –Served a mahogany colored brew with ruby like highlights and a small off white head. The head fades rather fast to leave a persistent film on the top of the brew. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a sweet caramel smell mixed with notes of lightly roasted malt and a biscuit smell. Mixed with these are some aromas of a buttery toffee and a light grassy hop. Taste – The taste begins with a lightly roasted bready flavor as well as some caramel sweetness. As the taste advances further some toffee, biscuit, and some fruit flavors a apple and a light cherry come to the tongue. The flavors remain relatively constant throughout the rest of the taste until the end where a light citrus and herbal hop flavor come to the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the brew is on the medium side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average to just below average side. The medium body and carbonation suit the drinkable and lightly roasted and sweeter flavors of the brew quite well. Very appropriately done. Overall – A decent red ale. It has an easy drinking and non-complex flavor profile that has nice smoother flavors which makes a good beer to have while enjoying the company of other.

A) nice amber color, clear. Hardly any foam capping, fades quickly. S) Smells of roasty malts. I don’t notice any hop presence. T) I do notice some hoppy tones on my first good drink but is almost muted by the roasted malts. The malts also have a nice sweetness to them. Taste is well balanced. MF)The beer feels thin and watery, slighty bitter or dry on finish. overall) true to style, good Drink well my friend

Its body is deep amber in color and it shows very good clarity. A quick poor makes for a tall foamy head. It is off white to a very light tan in color and it slowly fades down to very thin filmy covering as I drink. Its lacing is minimal, spotty and slick. The aroma fairly light with some hints at malt and light leafy hops as well as touch of something with mineral like edge. There is mix of pale biscuity, dry white bready and sweet malt as the base flavor note. Hops add there balance of leafy and herbal flavor as well as some bitterness and dryness. The body has a medium feel with good carbonation and an easy drinking light but note too light texture.

Bottle at home from backlog notes 07/08. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have grainy malt, caramel, banana, additional mild fruit, some mild earthy hops. Very plain. Willnot revisit.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a clear amber colored body with some carbonation seen rising and a creamy lasting white head, it leaves ringy foamy lacing. The smell had roasty malts and caramel, light hops ever so slightly in the background. The taste takes the caramel and comes back and has some roastiness to it. The palate sat about a medium, sessionable, smooth, no aftertaste, quick caramel finish. Overall, this is not a bad beer, but nothing to scream about, might have again, unsure?

Tap from Lazy Dog. Pours a near transparent amber with a ring of cream colored head. Aroma is very faint, slightly sweet. Taste very weak, still sugary with a slight malt hint.

Tap at Macgregors. Nice malty nose, caramel, cherry, gum balls. Nose is a bit faint, but flavor is right on, very malty and rounded. Slight roasting. Very drinkable.
