COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A chocolate stout is a beer with a noticeable dark chocolate flavor. This flavor is created from the use of darker, more aromatic malt that has been roasted or kilned until it acquires a chocolate color. Harpoon Chocolate Stout is brewed with an abundance of chocolate malt and a touch of chocolate flavor, creating a rich, creamy ale. Enjoy!

This beer is my favourite chocolate stout overall. It isn’t too expensive, has good chocolate flavour, but I wish there was more of a beer taste to it. Still an excellent choice.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Tom. Pours black almost opaque with a beige head, aroma of nuts, chocolate, Nutella, flavor is a bit smoked with chocolate, some milk, coffee and cocoa, medium bodied

On tap at Cambridge Common 1/12/2013 with Erica. Pours pitch black with no head, strangely enough. Notes of chocolate, bread/batter, and nuts on the nose with flavors of sweet chocolate, booze, dark fruit and almonds on the tongue. Thin-bodied stout, but yet rich and complex in terms of flavor.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Tom. Dark brown to black with a bit of light brown foam. Lovely powerful chocolate spread aroma. Sweetish roasty flavor with chocolate, a bit of coffee, light acidity and a drier and slightly bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Decent, but the flavor doesn’t match the great aroma.

Bottle sample. Super dark brown color, small mocha head. Full chocolate nose, sweet, irish cream. Some light tartness, roast, dark chocolate. Light-med bodied, low-med bitterness. Lacks some body but cool.

Nearly black, with a short, but thick brown head. Aroma is chocolate, cream. Flavour is slightly bitter milk chocolate, vanilla cream...malt. A substitute for dessert. Excellent....and feeling.

Presentation: 12 oz. brown bottle with the "Best by" date printed on the neck. Served in a pint glass. Appearance: Deep, dark brown, almost black color. Develops a half finger dark tan head that fizzles out into thin ring. Leaves some nice, thick, lacing. Smell: Smells of chocolate with a hint of roasted malt. Taste: Almost a mirror image of the smell. Mainly chocolate with some roasted malt in the background a bit of bitterness to balance it all out. Not extremely flavorful or complex, but very satisfying and interesting. Mouthfeel: Deep and rich, very nice texture. Full bodied with little carbonation. Overall: "Less is more", pretty much defines this beer. The chocolate hint and roasted malt presence make it very easy to enjoy and a perfect brew for a cold night with some type of chocolate dessert. It gets creamier and the chocolate flavor is more pronounced as it warms, so let it sit at room temperature for a bit the enjoy it better.

Excited to see City Bev throw this one on-tap. I’ve wanted to try this one as I am a sucker for chocolate stouts, and the bottles seem to elude me. Came out a deep black with a thick frothy tan head on top. The aroma on this is amazing. Big milk chocolate, vanilla cream, malt. Really a nice, sweet aroma. The body on this is a little disappointing. Thin and lacking in body and bite. Carbonation is present, but this is too slick for the style and flavor profile. Nice sweet chocolate flavors start this out. Vanilla sweetness fights its way in and this finishes with a slight dry note. Graham crackers, toffee bars, and more chocolate. This is sweet, for sure, but it’s not overbearing in any way. I wouldn’t mind having this in my fridge. Another hit for Harpoon.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Opaque black-brown with tan head and good lacing. Aroma of Tootsie Roll chocolate, dark roasted malt, chocolate milk and cane syrup. The Tootsie Roll aroma of artificial chocolate dominates. Taste of Tootsie Roll artificial chocolate with dark malt and lots of sweetness. Medium body and medium carbonation. This is the beer equivalent of "chocolate flavored" candy. It’s sweet, resembles chocolate, tastes good at first, but is severely out-classed by quality chocolate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sample at brewery. Excellent chocolate aroma with thin lacing. Off white head. Roast chocolate flavor with subtle bitterness at the end. Almost found a rival to Southern Tier Choklat
